Snapped bolt that holds engine to transmission - HELP ASAP
While pulling transmission, bolt broke in block. How do you get it out? Anyone know of a shop that can pull it? Live in Washington.
drill a hole through the center of the snapped bolt in the block and use an extractor to pull the f*cker out its not fun to do tho but it should work
Yeah, that's pretty much the only way.
When you drill the hole be careful to not have too big a drill, though - your goal here is to keep from munching the threads, but still have enough for the extractor to grab. The extractor set SHOULD have recommendations on which size drill to use....or better yet, the drills themselves. And whatever you do, try to avoid overtorquing the extractor and breaking the tip off in the hole.....been there, cursed that. (Extractors are really really tough material. Makes it much harder to get out.)
Also, see if you can get some PB-Blaster or similar into the hole and let it sit overnight. Every little bit helps.
Finally, probably still a good idea to run a bottoming tap down into the hole once you've got the old bolt out, just to clean it up.

If you don't use the correct size extractor you may end up breaking it in the hole and creating a much bigger job. Drill a small hole in the center first, then drill it progressivly larger till you reach the correct size hole for the biggest extractor you can fit , soak it with penatrating oil overnight, then screw it very carefully backwards.
Use the regular twisted "easeyout" type only and get a good one.

if you have a dremel, get a small cutting wheel and make a notch for a flathead screwdriver in "top" of the bolt. get your biggest meanest flathead and have at it.
sometimes thats works... only other way is with the extractor

I've done this too....but be careful with the dremel tool - since it cuts in a circular pattern, it's easy to wind up cutting into the surrounding metal, with both screws up the threading and tends to "lock" the bolt in place.
you better be really careful unless you are f*cked happend to my buddy and he had drill a bigger hole and it leaks tranny fluid somehow

what perryrt and itmejto said. I just extracted two bolts today. drill a hole from small to large so that you can fit the largest extractor into the bolt shaft. then apply pressure while turning it counterclockwise.
bump the old thread

debating if i should leave it like this. it may be cross threaded. this snapped after i had already torched the bock for a while for the metal to expand. ill try to slot method and torch it some more from the inside, if it dosent budge i am leaving it like that

I am wondering if you torch it too much you might warp it?
It looks crooked and might be cross threaded?
I am wondering when you guys use an ex out, you drill the center right and then which way do you screw the ex out bit, counter-clockwise?
