Default I think im in LOVE (B18C1)

my friend let me drive his 2001 integra gs-r yesterday and i loved it. All hes got is an intake and the thing screams when it hits vtec its the nicest sound. After driving that and my 98 civic (D16Y8) i cant stand it no more.

I will definatley be saving for a motor swap i have $1400 saved so far.

What im wondering is what would be the best choice and I know its been debated time and time again but for the price the H22A4 into my civic or the B18C1??

And is hondmotorsonline.com the cheapest place to get these engines??(H22 $2400, B18 $3300) I know itll probably come to about the same with the mount kit and everything. I just want something that could hit at least 185whp with some basic mods

Please dont flame and i did try a search

Personally, i'd go with the h22. More power to begin with and a lot more torque. Remember to upgrade brakes and suspension also.

if you like breakin axles, get the H22.

If you want factory-safe performance and handling, as well as a good base to start from, get the B18.

Its not worth having to buy a mount kit, upgrade your suspension and your brakes just to get some extra torque.

The B18C is better supported in the aftermarket anyway

B18C1 all the way..best investment in my Civic yet...and get some good brakes too, once that motor is in, you'll need something to slow the beast down...

It will take a lot more than "some basic mods" for a B18C1 to hit 185WHP.

My advice is to save until you think you have more than enough money to do the swap, then save a little more. There are always little expenses that start to add up and if you're out of money you're going to start cutting corners instead of doing it right.

im thinking get the b16a2 and spend the extra $1000 ill save and do some mods

would it really be worth the extra $1000 for the B18C1???

B18/B16 = cheaper, easier and avail.

H22/23 =parts are not easy to find, harder to make it work (customs), hell, pick up a mag and see who's got what.

$1400 eh? well you could turbo your SOHC and beat the **** out of any GSR I/H/E hybrid right now

guarantee boost will hit a lot harder than vtec

I would go with the B18C . I seen B16's with Intake, Exhaust & Header get taken out by Stock B18C's .B16 is tight also though

i wanted to turbo it for so long but im not the best driver and prob wont even break low 14's

with B16/B18 theres always room to do more and go faster

is there really a big difference bewteen a modified B16A2 and B18C1??

(i'd love a B18C5 if i only had $5000)

bahahhahahahaha if yuo wouldnt be able to break into low 14's with a turbo SOHC then good luck hitting low 14's in a B18C hybrid wihtout some expensive work done bahahhahahahahahahahah
maybe with a fair sized shot of nitrous would you break into low 14's with a B18C hybrid, but I/H/E B18C in a coupe will only get you into mid-high 14's after spending about $5000 or so installed and thats with GOOD driving

B18C has more torque than B16A. Thers no replacement for displacement, cept for maybe a big turbo

nothing can replace boost. nothing. vtec is great, just wait till you hit boost. ahh, the sound of a turbo spooling is music to my ears.

Go with a B18c1 all the way, unless you have the $$ for the C5. At the beginning of the year I dropped a b18c1 in my 98 coupe. After it was rebuilt, and put all my goodies in it. I am very happy. My freind told me that the h22 is only good if your gonna turbo it. And the b16 doesn't have a lot of torque. Whatever you decide- good luck

hey i might not be the best driver but im not the worst my friend ran a 19.1 in his 2000 auto coupe i havent ran mine yet but i did smoke him at a stop light nothin to brag about tho.

about the turbo id prob wana get the greddy kit and ive only heard like high 13's low 14's with it and thats with some good drivers and like 4-5 grand worth of work i havent been to the track yet with my car and ive felt boost before in my friends 91 vr-4 and its the best thing in the world

i like to keep my options open like with B16/B18 i can dump some money into and be quick on the streets without any forced induction.

o yea and i have a zex kit but i blew a seal on the solenoid

H22 gonna cost a lot more. It cheaper to even drop a ITR(B18C5) motor than an H22.

Go B18C.

My thoughts on a B16 in a coupe are that you are basically gonna end up with an SI. If that's the case then I'd sell the EX (D16Y8) and just pick up an SI. You'd get the B16 plus some added suspension mods like a rear sway bar and larger front sway.

But if I was going to do a swap I'd go with the B18C. It would be more worth the intial investment.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

LS swap (sell the LS tranny)
Tranny to get is a B16 jdm tranny w/ LSD
Now that will be fast, strong, and a greta all around performer.

I ran a 14.6@94 with a JDM B18C in my coupe(with traction problems). I have an N1 catback and a test cat. Cheap used CAI, and a used ACT clutch I got for about $150.

Motor + Shipping = $3,600
Installation = FREE
Various Parts = $150
ACT clutch = $150
N1 Catback = $450
Total = $4,350

Nitrous might get me into 13's, but I'll be slipping like a bitch. I plan to invest my next couple hundred bucks on a suspension setup and maybe some BFGs. Then I'll definitely be running low 14's.

B18C has more torque than B16A. Thers no replacement for displacement, cept for maybe a big turbo
I can't tell you how many B16's I've smoked so far. B16's in hatches, CRX's, you name it. I can tell you the extra grand or whatever it is, is well worth it.
