Default Prelude F22/H23 Boosted Built Plan

My goal is building a 350-400hp engine. The plan is a F22 steel sleeved block with a slight .020 overbore. The stock F22 crank will be used. I picked the F22 crank because of its larger journals and better rod to stroke relationship. I will be using Pauter rods, forged 9.0 to 1 compression full floating pistons with chromoly pins. ARP main cap and head studs along with other hardware will hold it together. A H23 DOHC head with some porting and a H23 intake will be used. A stage 2 Crower FI camshaft is planed. I'm unsure which exhaust manifold I will use. I plan on using a 60-1 Garrett T3-T4 watercooled ball bearing turbo. I will use an ovesized or untapered throttle body. I will use a Tial 38mm wastegate. I'm not sure on which blow-off valve I prefer. A large FMIC with 2.5" piping is planned. Water/Meth injection will also be used. A 3" downpipe and full system will be made. I'm trying to decide which ECM I'll use for tuning. Injectors will be 650-750 in size. Boost will range from 8 psi to 25 psi.

This is my plan so far. It will go in a 1992 5 speed Prelude Si I picked up for $300.00. I'm sure I missed some details in my build plan.

Your input is apprecated.

I'm unsure of what you are comparing the f22 with to conclude that it has larger journals and a better r/s ratio...care to shed some light?

everything sounds good so far. i'm in the middle of an H23 boost build as well. as for EMS. really depends on if you want standalone management or i you are ok with piggyback. Personally i'm running eCtune. From everyone i've talked to, it works REALLY well and there are plenty of tuners using it.

I'm was making my choice between the F22 or F23 short blocks. The RPM range and piston speed also helped make my choice. The difference is pretty small thou.

Stroke
F22 = 95mm/3.740
F23 = 97mm/3.818

Rod Length
F22 = 5.572
F23 = 5.551

Rod Ratio
F22=1.49
F23=1.45

Main Journal Diameter
F22 = 50mm(H22A = 50mm also)
F23 = 55mm

Rod Journal Diameter
F22 = 1.888
F23 = 1.771

Rod Bearing Width
F22A1 = .762
F22A4 = .762
F23A1 = .609
F23A4 = .609
F23A5 = .609

Bore to Stroke ratio
F22 = 1 (Square)
f22 = .979 (Under Square)

I am still considering using a H22A crankshaft with custom pistons.

Rod Length
H22A = 5.633

Stroke
H22A = 90.7mm/3.570

Rod ratio
H22A = 1.577

Bore to Stroke ratio
F22-H22A =1.047 (Over Square)

An F20B 88mm crankshaft would be great for piston speed.

What I need to find out is what the maximum rod length for each combination is with custom pistons?

Anyone have any other opinions on this?

Keeping piston speed down is a big concern. If it takes custom lengh rods and pistons as needed such is life.

I trying to determine if I can destroke a H22 crank by cuting the rod journals down from 1.888" to 1.771". I woud have some custom lightweight piston with raised pins MADE.

One choice might be to use F20B rods which are 5.709" long. My crank stroke would be about 3.563'". This would give me a rod ratio of 1.602.

My ideal ratio would be 1.8 or higher.

A F20B 3.464" stroke would be a great find for me. It has a great rod ratio.
