Default Is this possible? Audio Experts please chime in

My Father just picked up a Nissan Pathfinder 2002.

It came with a DVD player. It currently has a stock stereo that does not work. We are looking to replace it with a Alpine CDA-9886 Model. My main question is, we would like to keep the dvd player but is it possible to hook it up the new Alpine head unit? If so how would we do so. The DVD player is mounted on top of the car in the back seat and the DVD player is sitting in the back of the car with the cables. I took a picture of the stereo on how it sits right now and where the dvd player goes in the back along with the plug.

We would like the dvd player infront with alpine head unit.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

i would say it wont fit unless you were able to find a special kind of harness. but i dont think it would be worth the time or money. you can find a dvd player like that cheap online. that plug seems to be only for oem

So the first question would be is the DVD player plugged into the stock HU that is in turn plugged into the OVU. [overhead video unit] or is the DVD player plugged directly into the OVU?

Are there any other controls on the DVD player, other then the eject button, are there any controls on the OVU, is there a remote control for the OVU, are there a pair of cordless headphones for the OVU? 94

First question...is there a tv in the car? and the answer is that that plug will not integrate with that alpine unit. the only add on's for that unit is cd changer, ipod, bluetooth and sat. radio(i think).

So today

I took out the stock stereo and looked behind it.

The only plug that has to do with the DVD player behind it is this http://img530.imageshack.us/im...9.jpg as shown as the plug that goes into the DVD player itself. on the back of the car. It is a 9 pin plug. Any suggestions would help. I would like to purchase a regular CD/MP3/USB Head unit to replace my stock stereo but would like to keep the DVD player. Is there an adapter for that plug?

http://pinouts.ru/

checkout that site, it might have the pinouts for the nissan DVD. You also may want to look for who makes the Nissan factory unit, as it's likely made by somebody who uses that same connector. like if it's made by sony, you may be able to just plug it into a sony HU.

The plug in the picture is refered to as a "din" plug. First question is does the DVD system and/or screen power up and function w/o the head unit connected (w/o audio of course)? If not, the din plug will have just audio R & L + and signal ground from the DVD to the deck, and 12V + and ground supplied to the DVD player. The question is which pin does what, hard to answer without the factory unit working to verify pin configuration.

Alpine decks that have the AI NET connector have the ability to run an AUX audio source thru them with the use of an adaptor, it uses the CD changer/Sat radio input for the AUX audio input.

Factory equiptment uses proprietary plugs, aftermarket radios are most often not compatable with OEM gear, or even other MFRs aftermarket gear in most cases. I will check my wiring recources and see if I can drum up a pin configuration for the Nissan DVD player for you.

There is no adapter for your system, you will have to make your own.

If the DVD player has only the din plug, and the HU has a din plug plugged into it then it is for audio and/or power, ground and turn on control only, as the HU has no video controls.

My guess is the din cord from the DVD player and the din cord from the HU both go to the over head screen.

You will need to drop the over head screen to confirm this, but it is a pretty good bet.

Again, this means you will have to make an adapter to change from the din plug configuration to standard male audio RCAs and power ground and turn on lead, [if needed]. 94
