First the GSR and now the ITR; Stolen/Recovered.
Kind of a long story:
I'll start off by say it was maybe a year ago when my GSR was stolen from me. I was fortunate to get the car back in one peice minus some damages. There was an officer patrolling the area and when the theif saw, they pulled over and abandoned the car. It was immediately towed and I was contacted.
Now, for the more recent incident... My ITR was stolen from me on inbetween 9.23.08 - 9.24.08. It's awful when you wake up and the car is missing. I called the police and the tow yard to make sure it wasn't towed or anything. It wasn't. That's when I knew the worst had happened. That was a crummy day.
I got a call on Thursday from another tow yard telling me my car was in their possesion! I called the police to see if I could pick it up. I wanted to pick it up that night, before anything else could happen to it. They told me they'd contact me when the car was clear for pick up. Dang, they never called me so I had to pay the extra day for storage and I had to sleep with the fear of it going missing again.
They told me the car seemed fine to be fine. First thing I did on Friday was go home and get ready to pick up the car (I found out the car was clear for pick up, but the police never informed me). When I get there, pay the fee to release the car, I inspect it right away.
Interior...check; Suspension...check; Motor...check; My key...check! Start the car...no go. I turn my head and the ECU is missing...damn... So now I call my insurance cuase I need to tow it.
Well, I consider myself fortunate the major pieces are still there. The things that went missing are:
Strut Bar, Spare Tire and the tire iron, Spare Tire Board/Cover, Sub/Amp, Shift ****, Floor Mats, and the ECU.
Horn doesn't work, Alarm doesn't work, Ignition is all messed up as well as the plastic peices.
Bastards....
Now I have a question, since the ECU is missing, what ECU's can I use? I thought about buying a used one, but can they be re-programmed to my key/VIN? Do I have to buy a brand new one. I thought about looking for a 97 ITR ECU since there isn't an immolizer and keep the OBD2 functions. Do JDM ITR ECU's work?
Anyways, I think I've made my decision and put the car back together and sell her. I'll probably be looking for another one down the road, but now isn't the best time to keep her. I've had her for three years and she's been great. Even though both car's have been recovered with minimal damage, going through this is pretty rough.
Thanks for reading everyone. I've always hated reading these threads and now I just made one.

If a garage is not in your immediate future then selling is your best option. Your insurance rates will reflect these thefts and its not worth throwing money away. If it has happened once, it will probably happen again. They'l probably be back soon.
In the meantime, investing in a quality alarm + install is No. 1 priority along with getting it running. I would consider dropping $250 on an autoboot in the meantime if it is going to sit.

Ah sorry about that. I brought the key with me. I was just trying to say that I was ready to fire it up.
I also forgot to mention that it was stolen from my parking garage. It's a secure parking garage with a closed metal door. You need a sensor to get in or you'd have to sneak in after someone else or a resident would have to let you in. It was driving off and left at another parking garage. I believe security there saw it without a parking decal and towed it. That's how it was recovered with minimal loss.
Usually the car is in another garage at another location. It had to be moved temporarily for work in the garage.

No clue whatsoever. I'm thinking the same, they just left it there jsut to finish the job later.

This happens often. Thieves drop the caR off somewhere and leave it for a couple days to see if someone tracks it with lojack or a GPS.
You owe some security guy some

I would invest in a good gps based alarm and a boot, the big ones that cover the entire wheel and lug nuts... but Jared said it correctly, you are lucky to get your car back with minimal loss/damage. Over the past 6 months, I think you're the only one who got their car back, after it was stolen for a 24hr period, usually by then, its gone.
Good luck with the insurance company...

Yes it was a hard night/morning to wake up to.
The place down here in Coconut Grove where I used to live and where the gated security guarded parking lot they were stolen from was recently demolished to build new condos.
Weird to see it in that form.

what year is the car? sorry to hear about it being stolen but atleast all the major components are still there...
was it a 00-01 if so thats probably why the ecu is missing they probably replaced with a obd1 conversion to steal the car... its pointless to jack a ecu with immobilizer on it, pretty much useless to anybody
anyways get a good paging alarm on it and gps if you want to keep it safe, otherwise park it in a garage and leave it there
