just go to a muffler shop and have them weld in a pipe with the same diameter as the rest of the exhaust.

Then have muffler shop hack a few inches of the exhaust piping off fit a cat in there.

You said you have 8-9" room, you need at least 12"

Why can't you slice off 3-4" off the I pipe?

I just went thru the exhaust on my rex and im pretty happy it.

you dont want to have to cut any part of the header. all you need to do is cut a section off the pipe behind the flange on the pipe that runs between your cat and your muffler. if you need 4" more room for the cat then cut 4" out of that pipe. and reweld the flange back on, poof your done, any muffler shop can do this. or if you can unbolt it and take it somewhere any welder can do it. measure twice cut once btw

personally im running with a glasspack in where your cat goes.
