Finally! NSX brake caliper install + Legend GS rotors
First off, installation was a breeze. After doing the install myself, I have discovered a few things that members had stated, some to be true, and some to be untrue:
1) Legend GS rotors are 28mm thickness
2) Using NSX calipers + GS rotors requires you to "shim" the caliper bracket out a littie bit. This can be accomplished by using washers. I had only used 1 washer per bolt.
3) Using your stock ITR caliper bracket bolts is just FINE! I compared NSX bolts and ITR bolts, they are the SAME. Maybe there is a difference in grade? I doubt it. That was a myth to me.
4) NSX front brake rotors + Legend GS rotors have the same diameter, AND width. The only difference is the offset of the hub. It appears using the NSX rotor would push the disc out a little bit more. This would require using more washers. Using the Legend GS rotor would be the most effective way to go.
5) Somebody had stated to swap the calipers around, left for right, and right for left. That is a BAD setup! They had wanted the bleeders to point down? If you point it down, you would NOT properly mount the brake line in between those metal "stabilizers."
6) NSX, ITR and Legend GS use all the same brake pads.
7) My NSX calipers weighed in at 12lbs/piece
Here are the some pictures:
ITR(forgot to measure) VS Legend GS(28mm)
Finished shot (sorry so blurry)
Front shot of caliper
Shot behind the caliper. Note, if you switch left for right and right for left, the brake line will not be installed properly. Dont switch! Mount it RIGHT!
ITR caliper vs NSX caliper (top shot)
NSX caliper bracket vs ITR caliper bracket

Compare the Legend Rotor vs the ITR rotor. Notice those vents come out closer towards the center of the hub.
Here is the shim (washer) trick you have to do with the caliper mounting bracket. If you do not shim it, the rotor will literally rub on the caliper bracket.
What does it feel like? I havent been able to really test out the brakes to its fullest potential but for what Ive done, it seems it wants to stop faster (damn I hope!). I can tell my weak point in my braking is my cheap Michelin XGTV4s. I will be investing in some CW's w/ Azenis REAL soon.
Oh yeah, I forgot to measure the width of the ITR rotor. Im sure somebody can figure it out by the picture. Enjoy!

When using Legend GS calipers, you *DO* switch them side to side. The legend has the calipers on top, as opposed to the front, as the NSX and ITR do. The bleeder is in the other end of the Legend caliper.
In summary:
NSX=don't switch
Legend=switch!
I know they are on my EG already ;-)

how much did this entire conversion cost you.....i may be interested in this , if its within a resonable price, and has good performance
How much does the ITR caliper weigh?
BTW - I like your shop floor

People are sweatin the shop floor more than the damn brakes. Maybe I should start a post called "Honda-Tech Cribs" and take snap shots across the whole house.
BTW, its my buddies pad, not mine, he has a real nice garage faciility.

If that is the case with the Legend calipers... you now have the different size pistons pointing the wrong way front to rear... increasing pad taper vs. decreasing pad taper which is the whole point of have two different sized pistons in the first place...
Zeus- who will investigate plugging the bleeder location and taping the other end... when he gets around to it...

Wonder if that just isn't a trait of the make of disk you used? My 23mm redilled Prelude rotors from Fastbrakes look exactly the same. Think they had a CTEC sticker on them. Where did you buy your rotors?

Zeus, Im a little confused as to why its mandatory to switch L to R, and R to L. Why does the bleeder have to be on top or bottom? To pump out all the air from the brake system?
For anybody who has the NSX caliper setup, are you doing this switch?
Edit: There are a few guys that I forgot names, who are running this setup on a track setup, never have I heard of this. Im dumbfounded?!

My under standing is that you DON"T switch the early NSX calipers as they mount in the same place as the ITRs or in the front... Bleeders have to be on top in order to properly bleed the the air out of the calipers..ie top where the air collects.
I'm told(don't know yet) that Legend caliper mounts on the rear of the Legend rotor with the bleeders on the other end in order to keep them on top... so if you were going to use a rear mount caliper on a front mount car, you would have to switch sides in order to have your bleeder in the required position... Confused yet? Well to add to that, multi piston calipers use different sized pistons front to rear in order to combat "pad taper" or uneven pad wear due to basic physics. If you "swap sides", simple logic would suggest that now you are inducing uneven pad wear due to the larger piston's pushing on the leading edge of the pad instead of the trailing edge of the pad... I don't know, however, if it would be any worse than the OE single pistons "taper wear"... esp if it were only used on the street vs heavy track use where it is my understanding, that the most uneven wear is prevelent... I've only seen really bad taper, of 1mm to as much as 3mm difference from one end of the pad to the other on pads used in single piston calipers that have had the **** beat out of them on the track...
PS Don't switch yours! From the pictures you posted, your bleeder is where it needs to be... Unless your pictures are up side down

Good work MiGs! You beat me to it! Install looks nice - did you refinish those calipers or are they brand new?? They are very shiny
Nice pics too.
PB - who has a set of NSX calipers still sitting in a box...

there was a thread in the prelude forums a while ago with someone putting legend calipers on their 'lude.
sounds like a really nice set up... keep us updated on the performance.

Yeah whats the cost?
93-94 Legend GS/LS Coupe $100-150, $350+
