Why don't you explain to me how it works then. Since you obviously work for Spoon.

i have the issue of honda tuning when this came out. the civic has a k20a. it was raced against the f20. no where does it say it is a f20 block/k20 head.

besides the obvious of how the trans. is mounted to the f20. how is the f20 block sitting under the hood of the civic like a k20?

although i admit i didnt see the link to the youtube video and it seems like they are all saying what you are saying.

i find it odd that there was nothing about it in the honda tuning spread about the "hot version" vs. s2k.

I agree. I just read what you were referencing on Honda Tuning. Here is the link to the article you are talking about.

for the lazy:

The 1.8-liter, four-door, FD1 chassis was the chosen starting point because, like we said, it wasn't like Spoon had anything else to choose from in Japan. First, they grabbed hold of the anemic R18A motor and hucked it out the window. In its place is a K20A mill from the JDM Integra R. The pistons were replaced with forged metal slugs from the S2000 and the sleeves were also altered to accommodate the replacements. Additionally, the rotating assembly was balanced and blueprinted to minimize any vibration and help hit high revs without trouble.

As a result this engine makes around 245 horses at 8,500RPM. Ichishima says the motor can be pushed to 9,000 without any problems and can climb further. Keep in mind the "stock" K20A Type R engine puts out 220hp at 8,000rpm, with a max torque output of 152 lb-ft at 7,000rpm.

Next, the weak-*** 5-speed transmission of the Civic was done in. A 6-speed gearbox from a DC5 was installed, but for further improvements, parts from the CL7 and EP3 chassis transaxles were also used, since all those platforms share the same trans in Japan. What resulted was a slightly shorter final drive ratio for a sportier ride.

Unless they are considering it a hybrid by using the S2000 pistons. Not sure.... But one can never know I guess. There isn't much more info about this car that I can find.

its right there in black and white. its a k20a with s2k pistons that has been resleeved.

you cant pair a f20 block to a k20 head. and if it "could" be done, it wouldnt sit like a k series it would sit sideways like the f series.

I don't mean to thread jack, but here's another spoon fd2 vid that I found, I'm not sure this is a repost though. Still a sick video nonetheless. Enjoy

I think Hasport did this last year. They won a race and just totally spanked the competition. It allowed them to run crazy high compression that couldn't be obtained with OEM K series pistions. I think it was Hasport I could be wrong.

Anyway other race teams protested because the victory because the rules said something like only OEM parts could be used. The whole protest boiled down tot he interpretation of modifying stock parts to work wasn't permitted by the rules or whatnot. It was a heated debate on k20a.org. I didn't read too much about it.

Imagine modding S2000 Pistons and crank and putting it into a K. I'm sure it's been done. Imagine franking the best of every Honda 4 cylinder, H22 block, S2000 Pistons and crank, K series head......

I wish sedans didn't have a sloping trunk lid but rather flat like TSX.

i believe you will find that the civic fn2 is running a k20a2 head and bottom end, but has a s2000 crank. basically the same as my own car, but i have 1mm oversized pistons to help push displacement up to 2.2.
spoons car is good. very good at 240hp, but if as they say everything else is uprated why does it only make 240bhp@8400rpm and 176lb of torque?
i know its not for reliability since it has alredy been rebuilt twice.

FN2 is the Euro Civic Type R and if I am not mistaken is a K20Z2 or Z4.

it dosnt make any sense that the motor could be a hybrid but if you watch the video @ 15 seconds in it tells you what motor it is and the specs. idk how but it says its a f20 and k20 hybrid.

This is so old guys. From before there was even a JDM type R 8th gen. civic

"The 1.8-liter, four-door, FD1 chassis was the chosen starting point because, like we said, it wasn't like Spoon had anything else to choose from in Japan. First, they grabbed hold of the anemic R18A motor and hucked it out the window. In its place is a K20A mill from the JDM Integra R.
