ok me and my friend are are about to drop the tranny on an 02 rsx type s but would like to know of any precautions.
first is there a haynes or helms for this car
second is it easier to take it out from the top to avoid dropping the sub frame brace or is that mandatory
third will it be easier to take out the whole engine and tranny
is there a write up on how to do it
thanks for any help

Download the helms manual their. It should have all the information you need.

subframe has to come out and tranny can only come out thru the bottom. If you have never had your tranny out ever, you are also going to have to remove your IM because the bracket reinforcing your IM is blocking a bolt on your tranny.
you are going to need a realignment after everything is said and done.

ok anything else i should know cause i was looking and didint see a spot to hold the car up cause the sub frame has the jacking points on it do i need a lift
You don't need to put the jacks on the subframe. You can use the points right under the passenger and driver doors near the front. don't ask me the technical term but theres a very thick metal point near the wheel well, not in the wheel well but it's where most people jack up their cars when changing a tire. You'll see it.
Here is a good link for you. It's how to install a new clutch and lsd in an EP3 but it's the same in the rsx as well for dropping the tranny and installing lsd. Good guidline for you since you've never done it.

If you are changing your clutch, remember to torque the pressure plate to spec in a star shaped pattern.

Oh yeah another thing. Instead of taking off your lower ball joints, just keep them intact. You can't remove them like older hondas. You have to use the Honda special tool because if you don't you'll end up ruining the ball joints with a pickle fork and you can't bang on the side of the metal (i really can't think right now, don't remember the technical term again someone throw the correct term out there) arm. Instead take the whole subframe and axles with the steering knuckles out. It is much easer then removing the lower ball joints and pulling out the axles and less painful.
Also if you ruin the lower ball joints you have to buy a whole new steering knuckle because honda doesn't sell them seperately. Luckily for me I found and have the honda part # for those lower ball joints. Don't think they are exactly the rsx ones but they actually ended up fitting and were maybe a couple of threads shorter but still worked non the less.
If you want the Honda special tool (aka lower ball joint tool) the part # is: 07MAC-SL00200
For anyone who has messed up their Lower ball joints and do not want to fork up cash to buy new knuckles with the lower ball joints the Honda part # is:2601578 SB-6242
Those lower ball joints were from Honda and were packaged New. I bought them off of ebay and was very very lucky to find them at the time i had ruined my lower ball joints. Yes they are Honda parts for the nay sayers. I think I am probably a rare person to have those part numbers.
If you had access to a lift it would be a lot easier. any other questions feel free to ask. Oh yeah, you don't need to take out your whole motor to pull the tranny. Let the other motor mounts hold it up and you could possibly plop a good couple pieces of wood on a ton jack to help to put less stress on those motor mounts.
