Default STD problem

So its my second day in the 91 STD 4spd. car was driving fine in the hills last nite and to and from my friends work(bout half hour each way) then when i get to work hook up my ipod connecter the car starts to idle low when the music gets fast and loud at stoplights. Then a little while after the check engine light goes on and it shifting gears it hesitates. I dont understand this and would love some help.

most likely its your o2 sensor...if the check engine light is coming on after about 30 min. it may be your o2sensor..

you can pretty much disregard all the above comments. First, figure out what check engine light code is being thrown.. come back here with that info and we can get you further than just guessing.

the alternator and battery theories are interesting, but your battery light should come on if either of those systems are the main problem. in addition, the cel suggests they are not..

First thing you need to fix your STD problem is go on down to the local Health Clinic. haha

Check your check engine light code, check your battery and alternator (autozone does batt./alternator check for free). just like sanimalp said.

funny thing about that i got nothing to read codes but the search was narrowed down to fuel pump or egr, it idling low to fast music was just coincidence. and now that thats out of the way where is the fuel pump on 91 std's?

you have to drop the fuel tank to get to the pump on the ef. why do you think it is the fuel pump?

You can read the code without any tool.. you just have to lift the carpet on the passenger side and count out the blinking lights.

idle issues are usually related to FITV or IACV.. but they wont give you a check engine light generally.

additionally, you car does not have an egr unless it is a cali automatic DX, or a crx hf.. so that isnt it..

Listen to that guy. I am a noob with a STD myself, and counting blinking lights proved to be easy and efficient. Good luck.

check the light on the ecu first. count the long blinks followed by the short blinks.
