Hit a deer wit my 94 GSR Insurance?
Ok so I hit a 2 deer with my 94 gsr last nite. Call the insurance and they tell me based on the damages Im telling them the car is gonna be totalled. There sending some company called towpart from philly to get it on monday. Ive never heard of this crap. Insurance is nationwide and the damage is hood, headlights, bumper, radiator, drivers fender and mirror. Car is a 94 GSR with around 100,000 miles. I just put over $2000 into this car in the past 2 mths or so. Skunk 2 TypeS suspension, new upper control arms, lower ball joint, inner and outer tie rods, new CV shafts, new Catback exhaust, new brakes lines, new rear lower control arms, new sway bar and sway bar bushings, all new rubber bushings on front and rear arms, basically all the suspension is brand new. New Skunk2 intake manifold, skunk2 throttle body, jutita intake, apexi afc. Car has some rust bubbling on the rear wheel well areas. Does this sound right to u. I want the car and think this is crazy.
if an insurance company totals a car and pays you for it, it becomes thier property. You can buy it back, but they are going to come get it with a tow truck either way. They won't just take your word for it that it's totaled.
Chances are your car will be stripped clean of anything of value on the way to the tow yard, so keep that in mind. We're talking Cd players, engine parts, that AFC, etc...

Well based on the age of the car I could tell you it's totaled too. If the damage was enough to reach through the frame to get to your radiator, then it's a done deal.
Best thing you can do is to take off all your custom parts and throw on the basic crap.

It has nothing to do with what mods are on your car. The car is 14 years old and over 100.000 miles of course its gonna be totaled. one of my friends hit a dear with a F-150 pick up and the dear totaled that! dear FTL!!!!!
Really i don't think they have a right to tell you its totaled over the phone..
Wouldn't they need a body shop estimate, etc before they can determine if the vehicle is a total loss.

They know that it's almost 100% positive there is frame damage, a new hood, new fender, new radiator, new bumper, new headlights, new mirror.
Hell, i got backed into at a parking lot and it cost $2500 for repairs to just my door itself. Most of that was paint matching. I coulda got a new door for $200.....but why, it's not my fault.....anyways.
Just those new items without paint matching is going to run at least $1200. Throw in painting for that many parts AND fixing the frame and you're up to probably $4k to $5k.

well i dont have any of the stock parts to put back on. And if anything gets stripped b4 i get the car back Im gonna be pissed. Idk why they wouldnt send an adjustor out to look at the car before they just have someone coming to pick it up. What do u think the value of the car is? KBB says around $5100 with 100,000 miles. Im so pissed I just put in a full black interior, leather seats, etc as well

They're bring a towtruck. Just take your **** off completely and start stacking it in your room, it'll give you more pull anyway the deer ripped off your exhaust, your spens is [freak]ed up, they're going to just pull your car on the bed, so no need for it to even be able to roll lol..
Just go take everything off and leave it as is.

haha are u serious? I kinda wanted to just buy the car back and fix it. I have relaced nearly everything on this car already and I highly doubt they are going to pay for that. Will they estimate the value of the car when they get it to the place? I kinda want to know the deal before they take off with my only car and all my mods on it. I can fix everything for a cpl hundred bucks. Then repaint it myself. Not to mention the motor and trans is worth close to $2000 if i parted it out

just buy it back for like $$500 thats what i did wen they crashed my hatchie.. but it was the others people insurance that wanted to take the car so i dk if its gonna be the same
but did they actually come take the car? They told me the adjustor would call me after they received the car in philly. Then I would have to talk with him about the value and buying the car back if possible. Im like 2-3 hrs from philly and I dont want to have to drive to philly and pull it back if i do decide to repurchase the vehicle ya know.
If it's considered totalled, you might just ask your insurance company if you can buy it back right then and there. Since I think if you let them take it to an impound lot, a lot of your **** is going to be taken off by some ******* and then they'll deny it and say it came over that way
I spoke with the insurance again today and demanded an adjustor come look at the car 1st. They agreed but she told me in no way will he be able to make the determination of the vehicles value that I will be paid. In order to do that it will still have to be towed to there sub company "towpart" and ppl will go over the car to make the value determination. I was like well what about all my parts that are not stock? She didnt have an answer nor did she have an answer on me being able to buy the vehicle back.

x2. go to a junk yard and get some shocks and spare tires there. then strip your car dude. if not, in the next few weeks i'll be looking around the junk yards in the philly area for a slightly damaged gsr, and strip it my self. it's totaled, just give them a rolling chassis.

Just be careful what you swap out. Depending on what it is, it could be considered insurance fraud. Use common sense.
It's actually worth more stock than with any modifications (per State Farm). I would swap out the upgrades with stock, if possible.
If random parts are missing (seats, bumpers, trim) be prepared for that to come out of the payout.

I recently went through the same scenario with my 94 LS. I told the insurance company that I was dropping the claim, and that I would fix the car myself. I've been rounding up parts from various individuals found thru the BBS's (like this one), and junk yards. All I have to farm out is having the old core support removed, and the replacement welded in place. The bumper, headlights, radiator and condenser I can do myself. So far, I have a used hood, core support (very experly removed from donor car), headlights, condenser, and front bumper, and I've spent less than $300 on parts!
And as far as the insurance company is concerned, the file is closed; I keep my title; and no salvage title will be needed. I have to admit, though, that the adjuster, when asked what whould happen if I simply dropped the claim, said he'd never been asked that question before....FWIW.
For me, I think I'm way ahead....
BTW, I didn't hit a deer. It was a Chrysler Sebring. So there....

Ok Im over been nervous. I finally got an actual adjustor to come out and look at my car today. Damage was $2600 and some change. Wrote me a check on the spot. Im so damn happy they didnt take my ride and total it.
You were lucky lol I remember I had to fight for my 95 teg. A lady side swiped me and because of paint and all they wanted to total it. It sucks but it's the reality of how much our cars aren't worth to them

LoL i bet they wrote you a check on the spot cause $2600 isn't going to cover it if you want to paint match.
