Tranny Problem
I recently bought a 97 Honda Civic HX thats originally automatic but been converted by last owner to 5 spd manual. I got a good deal on the car so i bought it over. But the tranny has problem shifting into 1st gear and the other gears goes in but takes more effort to push it into gear. Is this a sign of a bad tranny or clutch? or both? I really dont know. Thanks
Also someone told me that a car that has frame damage also has problem similar to that. Or last owner didnt do a good job with the tranny and shift linkage install may cause it to not being able to shift into place. But some gears is easily than others. And sometimes some gears like 3rd and Reverse grinds badly. Help?

Maybe that's the reason why u got it so cheap, either the tranny could be bad or the kid didn't know what he was doing and he wanted to get rid of a problem. Get a local mechanic take a look at it (some honda guy, not the guys at the local shop that would try to charge u more than what u payed for the car just to get that done) and get it done. if ur lucky, its ur clutch. otherwise could be ur tranny or could be worst.
Grinding gears isnt always a tranny issue, i dont know why people jump to that conclusion.
Grinding gears can be do to a worn clutch (the pressure plate actually) that isnt disengaging the disc from flywheel properly, thus causing the tranny to grind into gears.
