Key wont stay in ON position while driving

Key wont stay in ON position while driving
My buddies Civic does not want to stay in the ON position when turning the key.
Click I & II work fine.
The engine starts and runs normally. But if he lets go of the key it will go back to II
He has to hold the key there while driving. Yes it is a automatic.
Any ideas what could be wrong?
