it can be possible but it will be a dumb move to do what i can tell you is to rebuild your ls or buy another block then put that b16 head and you will be happy
you could go quite a few directions....it depends on what you want your car to do and your style of driving/usage of the car.
1. Get higher compression pistons from a VTEC motor, which can be found fairly inexpensively if you find a good deal. But at that point, you'll want to upgrade your valve train a little bit and then get a chipped ecu to run and tune with. It's not necessarily needed, but tuning will get this setup running right....and that's the goal, correct?
2. Just rebuild it with factory LS internals. And when you say, "I threw a rod"....do you mean, it snapped a rod, busted a rod through your cylinder wall, or what? This would be the most cost effective route. I would highly suggest going ahead and replacing all preventative maintenance items as well while it's all taken apart. (i.e. water pump, oil pump, gaskets, seals, ESPECIALLY valve seals and get a valve job just to make sure everything is seated and in good working condition after the rod issue).
3. Wait and find a motor that you could get that's used or in a part out. Obviously, you won't know 100% the condition of the engine you get. It could be a "Great engine with Type R internals and blah blah" and then you get it and it's crap....so, be careful and very skeptical with this route.
4. If it were me and I needed the car running ASAP, I would go to passwordjdm and get a B20 long block and throw it in, call it a day. http://passwordjdm.com/B20B-Lo....aspx
So...good luck and good job with asking before you bought one! Just keep asking for good knowledge and you'll get good answers on here.....keep us up to date on this!
