Default how do you remove the crankshaft pully

i have a b18a1 engine that i want to take apart..
how do you take the crank shaft pulley off... i took the head off and the tranny

i tried the 17mm bolt in the crank shaft pulley but the engine just keeps on turning over.. is there a special way or tool?

( the pulley is broken so it has to go )

put a chain wrench around the crank and lay it against the floor for leverage. then put a big wrench on the pulley bolt and an extension of some kind. then put all your weight on the thing (jump up and down on it if you have to) and it WILL come loose. the chain wrench looks like this.. They're torqued to like a buhgillion foot pounds from the factory so chances are slim to none your gettin it off with an impact gun either.

i really dont know what style pulley a b18a1 the OP has, but that tool doesnt work with EF engines for sure. honda wised up and implemented the hex shape for this type of tool to be used after 92 civics and other models.

chain wrench is how one mechanic did it as well. chipped off a bit of the pulley, not a big deal.

^^ that tool is expensive lol and only works in the car. if the chain thing dont work, take a pair of vise grips put them on the flywheel ring on the back side, use a big braker bar, if you have heat use that also or a impact gun

If you have a flywheel you can put on it, you can use that + a screwdriver to brace the crank too.

I use the small bracket that goes from the stock header to the block, and bolt it up on the flywheel side.

I stuck two large bolts through two of the holes in the crank pulley slid my ball joint fork between them and it broke loose that way.

here's mine. el cheapo way.

go buy yourself a 50mm hex nut and have it welded on a sturdy flat bar.

pics showing a b16 crak pulley. i have another one for the B18a/b/c, B20's wherein i have welded 2 x 50mm hex nuts on top of each other to reach the deeper hex pattern on such latter engine pulleys.

you can still use this gangsta tool even when the engine's in the car(EF).

i just found out that the hex type tool doesnt work that well on n1 pullys. haha, the indention in the n1 is like a quarter inch deep.

edit - i forgot i could look up torque specs, this says "tighten crankshaft pulley to 147 ft. lbs., loosen, then retorque to 133ft lbs"
but it says that for 93-01 integra, i dont know why, it says 90-92 is just 87ft lbs.

If you can, put the engine in the back of a pickup and take it a shop.

Tire shops (for example) that do big rig tires are everywhere and those guys have huge impact guns. Usually people are happy to show off the awesome power of their 3/4" impact gun.
