Yes, don't cut corners. Believe me you wont save any money that way, in fact you usually spend more.

no the head i'm putting on came out of the machine shop a year ago and only had about 200 miles on it (spun rod bearing) so i'm swapping that one i'm just trying to get around buying the head set vs. just the head gasket?
why dont you get an easy out and drill and pull the broken stud out with the easy out?
10 dollars for the tool, and 5 mins of work vrs 100 for a new head gasket minimum plus a few good hours to pull it all apart and put it back togeather, let alone time it.
the first option looks alot better to me

It seems to me the rest of the kit is just spark plug tube gaskets and valve cover gasket, if those are in good shape yeah a head gasket alone will probably do. Kit may have also included an intake manifold gasket as well, i kinda forget, you'll need that.

oh forgot on the head i'm removing i think it needed to be resurfaced for the im thats what caused me to break the bolt, i was tighting to get rid of a vacuum leak or trying to

easy way to check is to get a straight edge and a feeler guage. hold it acrost at the top, middle bottom then X across both the head and the intake manifold and find out if its warped at all.
start with the easy stuff first. more often then not you will save yourself money. your making this way to complicated.

well i swapped the head and now my crank seal is leaking oil and i've still got a vacuum leak just haven't been able to search due to the oil leakage
well the head i pulled off was warped at the im ports. today i found that it wasn't the crank seal leaking it was the cam seal (that the shop was resposible for last year) changed it, seems to be running ok now needs a tune up and prob need to clean out the iacv. (small erratic idle) other than that its a charm
thanks everyone for the info and help
