Default Alternator/electrical help for 88 crx hf

Well one day i was cruising down the freeway when my car starting acting funny when it got to 3k rpm, the rpm needle started jumping and go crazy, all my instrument lights got brighter and even my deck turned off, well right after i noticed all that my car just completely shuts off, i tried to clutch start since i was on a freeway but nothing, no lights what so ever, my car was getting no power at all, we tried to jump start it but nothing. I assumed the alternator was blown but wouldn't the car start up with a jump even with a bad alt.? and i checked all my fuses, grounds etc. I found that the ecu fuse and the alternator fuse was blown. I replaced both but nothing still, so I'm currently in the process of tearing down my car going through it to see whats wrong, I took out my old alternator and it looked busted, i have a new alternator but what if that isn't the prob? if anyone has a idea of what could be wrong it would be really helpful,

This is my DD CRX so without it i have nothing thanks in advance anything will help, sorry for the run on sentences its just this prob has gotten my really frustrated lol

In my wagon once I would get past 4k rpm the tach needle would bounce around like it wasn't even connected to anything. I had an extra distributor that I threw on and it seems to have fixed it and hasn't come back.

really? did all your lighting get brighter?? i was told that the rpm needle bouncing around was cause by the dizzy too, and when the needle started bouncing around you can feel the car get slower like it was being held back, so would that cause the lights to get bright and the heater to blow harder? before when i left the rpm bouncing around for too long and the the lights stay bright i would blow the headlight bulbs, but as soon as i let go of the gas and the rpm drops below 3k and it would all be back to normal. It just all doesn't add up, someone please help

i tried to search this problem but no one has gotten a prob anywhere close to mine.

open your distributor and check the play in the rotor.

Forgot to add that sometimes the Temp gauge sometimes jumps bounces around like rpm but it does it at idle or whenever it feels like it, I checked the plug that goes to the head and its securely plugged in so maybe this all has something to do with the dizzy

So i put the new alt on and put everything back to where its suppose to be, well i hooked the battery up and I get power and everything but i don't hear any fuel. it turns over but nothing (I understand its because of no fuel but it was worth the try ) lol but then i noticed smoke coming from under the fuse box in the engine bay so i pulled the neg off to make sure nothing else gets fried. This sucks, i understand the fuel prob can be the main relay but before my car broke down the main relay was working fine. And as for the smoking wires in the fuse box going to the positive of the battery and the other going to the harness, I'm not to sure of, maybe someone can help me out, my car is really close to being resurrected!!!! lol here's a pic of what I'm talking about

thanks for everyone's input tho, i really appreciate it and sorry for all the noob questions.

Lol thanks, i'm not a fan of dirt and grease under the finger nails that much, haha but yea, that's what i was planning to do, to make sure nothings touching, this would prob be the best time to tuck some wires and take out stuff i don't need.
