S14 Silvia vs JDM ITR
I'm sure some of you have seen the vid around of the S14 against the ITR in the 400M. We see the ITR win but alot of us 240sx guys just don't understand why.
You guys care to debate this? So we're talking 200HP (JDM??) vs 220HP + a lot more torque than the ITR. Weight? gearing? Even before I sold my R i wondered how the ITR won.

dont want to hear about driver skill, the s14 got the jump and 3rd gear the ITR pulled ahead.....
all i can see it being is weight with the combination of gearing as mentioned, the 2 cars are very similar in acceleration

It's a long story...
The Cigarette Smoking Man flew out to Japan to divert attention from the government's alien hormones testing project by stirring up controversy over something relatively trivial. Once there he noticed some familiar looking cars, having seen modified imports in the states, and his idea was in its beginning stages. He hired a crew to shoot some video of the cars and the behavior of the drivers so he could research ways to mess with our minds. The drivers were enthusiastic about being filmed, showing off and talking at great length about the strengths of their personal vehicles. He listened, and watched, and plotted. One thing he observed was that there was fierce loyalty among devotees of the different cars, much like in the states. He decided that the best way to mess with people's minds back home would be to stage a race between two similar yet different cars. The "race" would be thrown so that the less likely car would win in a last second victory. He paid off the drivers and set the whole thing up. Satisfied with the results, the Cigarette Smoking Man knew that the video couldn't just be released in the U.S. In order to cover his tracks he had the video released in Japan as a part of a popular series, buried between other footage. He knew that his handywork would soon find its way to the states, and eventually would spark lengthy discussions, especially over the internet. And thus, divert our attention from the sinister experiments on human subjects carried out right under our very noses.

If you're referring about the one where the guy in the ITR goes "ahh ishkabop ishkabop abar abar HEHEHE
" (or something around those words) umm i beleive that ITR is somewhat modified... i only heard this from another forum. Apparently before the race they detailed the mods in Japanese... don't quote me on this though.

the video he is refering to is best motoring american version 1 where a R races a s14 silvia non Aero version and the (stock) R takes him in 3rd then the driver goes insane, no seriousley he goes crazy.
that is what happen in the drag when my ITR was stock and also my mates S14, without a doubt SR20DET feels very torquey, that is what it makes it felt so quick. While ITR has smooth power delivery and horse power engine hence feels slow.
It was stock it, even sounded stock but see that shitty launch the type r did? it coulda gotta better time, ive seen better from the us type rs, those jap spec ones easily get low 14's if driven correctly, he launched at like 2500 it sounded like...thats really crappy, i launch at like 4500 and get a crazy launch....
It has to do with gearing and power to weight ratio. When I was NA with an EG6 Y21 transmission I would always run away from CA18DET Silvia's and 180SX's after 2nd gear but SR20DET equiped S13's and S14's would give me a good run if they were running more boost and a larger exhaust.
S14s arent that quick when they r in stock form, but with just a few mods to it they can become really really quick... the sr20 180sx are faster than then s14 200sx i think cos of its lighter body.
JDM ITR weighs less than USDM ITR... has better final drive than USDM ITR... has more aggressive ECU tune/better header etc producing more power than A USDM ITR... a crappy 14.7 400meter? What I find unbelieveable is numb nuts couldn't crank out a better time... USDM ITRs post those times...
The stock Nissan I don't know enough about to comment...

Ha I have a video on my computer from Japan with JDM ITR(200hp) vs Silvia(220hp). The R start to pull on the silvia after it goes into third geared in the R. The 1/4 mile time is JDM ITR (14.746) vs Silvia (14.944).
yeah thats the same video from the best motoring movie....the one everyone has been talking about throughout the thread....laugh everytime i watch it

Apparently the mods mentioned by a poster was discussed in the S2K forums (yes, I see a few familiar ppl from there
) and they are clutch and flywheel upgrades in comparison to the stock GSR/SiR-G Integra. The car is a stock DC2R 96 Spec -- which also means it has the same gearing as the USDM ITR.
Dee: When you're talking about using the EG6 Y21 -- is it really any different from the DC2 tranny in your Si-VTEC? (I assume you're talking about that car...?) I thought the gearing was the same... (though I know American GSRs have wider ratios)

, rwd had him on the launch, it just took the R to catch up, then 3rd came
