Default Automatic trans questions

I have a 1989 Civic LX with an automatic trans. Just recently it seems to be having a great deal of issue shifting and I thought about replacing the trans.

I’ve had a CRX auto trans covered in my backyard for about 2 years and thought about using it. Since it’s been sitting for so long would there be anything wrong with it, mainly seals that I would have to worry about? I know if you let an engine sit for a long time there are certain seals you should replace since they get dry rotted and need to be replaced.

The second option is find another auto trans to replace it with. I’m pretty sure all 88-91 CRX/Civic Sedan/Civic Hatch auto trans are the same but can you use Civic EG auto trans with a EF chassis?

And an auto-manual conversion is out of the question since the car will be used by my GF and she already rejected the idea of learning how to drive stick.

Do you have any expirience with the insides of an automatic transmission and or basic hydraulic knowledge? If you do I could help you troubleshoot the shifting problems. I just finished a drivetrain class at my school which required me to teardown and reasemble a 4t60E (auto trans) give me some detailed info on whats happening and ill try to help you out.

I have no experience on opening an trans especially an automatic, too much stuff. I think I'll just use the one I have and hope that it works.

Thanks for the offer
