Auto Trans Problems
I have a 99 integra with an auto trans. The trans keeps slipping to neutral and a friend of mine told me that the sprag bearing needs to be changed, could anyone confirm that this is the possible problem. Also I would need a rebuild kit when I take apart the transmission to change the sprag, what parts exactly would I have to replace when rebuilding the transmission? The code on the trans is S4XA. Any help would be appreciated.
for my dd integra..my trans slips too, mainly when accelerating though...it'll slip, rev up, then catch on...i took it in for trans flush..it helped for a couple of weeks but now slipping again. Wish i knew the issue so I could help myself and you, but don't....we prob need new trans
You could probably find another auto for dirt cheap. Manual trannies I've seen are approximately $400 +- 100. Then you have to swap it in and it's a pain in the *** and will take all day if you know what you're doing.
i want you to try something first. lucas transmission fix.
now, normally i don't condone snake oil fixes in a bottle, but this stuff works. it's like magic. my 94 golf trans was slipping and shifting all over the place. i did a service on it, and fired in a bottle of the stuff, and it was like brand new. no joke. it's a last ditch effort, but it only costs like 10$.
of course, it's not going to "fix" the problem, as the the issue is likely with the clutches and the coating on them being worn off. once they start slipping, that coating rapidly erodes and the problem snowballs. but this may extend the life.
i urge you to give it a shot. you've got nothing really to lose.
and yes, an automatic transmission is one of, if not the most complex components of any vehicle. if you're not completely familiar with the overhaul procedure, i'd advise not taking on the task alone
