JDM DOHC ZC MOTOR. information needed.
the FAQs only have links how to swap ZC motors to crxs and civics.
im not sure if this is the right section to post this at. if not, an admin can move it.
----but how can you tell what generation DOHC ZC is a DOHC ZC?----
one of a google link i read, is you can tell the color of the valve cover. brown, black or SOHC. but im buying a DOHC ZC with a stripped valve cover.
is there any other way to tell what year a DOHC ZC motor is from?
heres some pictures:

i know the pictures are small, but its pretty clear.
so any helpful information can help identify what generation or year its from.
thank you very much.

people are saying its a dohc version of a d16a6?
is that true?
and that a d series tranny will bolt up?
so i can use my stock tranny, pp, clutch and flywheel?
going into a 89 CRX si

it is true that you can use your tranny and stuff for that motor and you can tell what gen the motor is by the date on the head between the 2 and 3 port on the exhaust side if its a 88 or 89 then its a gen 2 the gen 1 is a D16a1 not a6. if you have other question you can ask
that does look like a gen 2 motor that will bolt right in to a civic or crx

i have a 89 crx si tranny with a 90-91 flywheel, clutch and pressure plate.
i got really confused when people wrote that a zc motor is a dohc version of a d-series.
so i wasnt sure if i would need a b series tranny. or if i could use a zc tranny on a d16z6 or d16a6.

your engine is OBD0 from 88-91 JDM CRX/Civic Si - it will bolt right into your car using your transmission, clutch, etc. - you will need to make a minor wiring change at the distributor due to the cylinder sensor being on the end of the exhaust camshaft on the DOHC engine instaed of inside the distributor like the SOHC engine - other than that, it is just like swapping in another A6 engine
thats good to know. what about the header? cause i have dc sport full cat back exhaust.
will the zc header bolt up or can i use the d16a6 one?
last question:
will the zc tranny bolt up to a d16z6/a6?
cause my friend needs a tranny for his z6 but i wanna use my a6 tranny cause of the final drive.

yes on the header for your zc
as for the zc to your friends yes but in order to use it the differentials need to be swapped. there is no mounting in the back of the z6 for the middle cv shaft

like the said between the 2nd and 3rd runner should have a date stamped in it. and also by looking at the serial number on your block i can tell it was actually out of a crx in japan.

the distributor is from an 86-89 integra
if you have a crx or hatchback, there are zc hoods that have the little hump where the timing belt cover goes. if you are like me with my sedan, those hoods do not fit, but the stock hood fits if the timing belt cover is not on.

No do not mess with your hood just place a few washers on the motor mount so the engine sits lower.
Also i highly recommend you start looking around on http://www.thezcr.com. and you will find all of the answers to all of your questions.

people said that you need to switch differentials to use a zc transmission on a d16z6.
cause ive done some research:
obd0 zc half shaft:

d16z6 block:

wouldnt the half shaft bolt right under the oil filter?
i just checked my friends d16z6 motor and there are threads there for bolts.
anyone tried this before?
