Ok so I'm 18 and I just started my first project car. After having a Lexus Sc400 which would cost ridiculous amounts of money to do anything to it, I wanted something cheap, easy, and fun. I am now the proud owner of a 95 hatch. I bought the car with a blown d15b(6or8) dont remember. It was auto and i've had fun (lol) putting in the new motor and manual trans. The engine is a d16y7 1.6l non-vtec with 40k miles on it.
The car is almost driveable, barring a couple fenders and a catalytic converter. Now the question at hand which i was hoping someone would be able to help me with is:
Where should I go to get a catalytic converter which will pass smog? I was hoping that I could find one cut past the bolts, so that I wouldn't have to do any welding. Is my best bet a junk yard? or is there a place where I can find a good catalytic converter? I'm in socal and understand that everyone isnt from here, but if you know of good brand names or sites or anything where I could find one, that would be awesome.
And if i've said something stupid feel free to flame/correct me, i'd actually like to learn more this being my first project car and all.

your best bet might just to be to go with an oem replacement. there not cheep but they do work.I dont know with cali but most places consider that year old enough to not go through emissions
