i havent owned one but from what i hear there great bikes. there fast as hell, not too heavy, and its a honda it will run forever. i see it has 18k miles, ask if its had its 16k valve check/adjustment. take it out, make sure the clutch is good, look for oil leaks, check the chain/tire condition. get it up to operating temp make sure the cooling system is working properly. also look at the rotors to see if there in good condition.
I'd say around $4k depending on condition and market. With 18k on it, just check the normal areas (tires, brakes, chain, cooling system, bettery, valve adjust, etc). Make sure you check around the stator cover, these bikes are notorious for oil leaks at that spot, because the engine case is very thin there and will crack easily if dropped on that side.
I had one and loved it, but it leaked around the stator cover from being dropped and I could never fix the leak so I sold it. I'm on a 600rr now and I really miss the 929. It was lightweight with good power and the seating position was much more comfortable than the modern supersports.

also might want to check/ask about headstock/steering stem bearings and wheel bearings. my CBR600 has 11,700 miles on it and i found out today that my headstock bearings need replacing. if you can get the front wheel off the ground (i did it be leaning the bike back onto the sidestand and the back wheel, then let go of the handlebars) and steer the bars from left to right full lock or get a friend to help. check if it steers smoothly without sitting into any notch while the bars pass the straight ahead position.
anything could be wrong with the bike or nothing. the general appearance of it will give clues to how well it was looked after and ultimately how mechanically sound it is. and it helps if the engine sounds smooth
you cant expect a shabby looking bike to be free from problems and ride like new, even if its a honda!! if you have any doubt, try to view one or two more of them and compare. there is NOTHING worse than the feeling of regret after unknowingly buying a shitbox

Best bike Ive ever had
I found it to be much more confidence inspiring through corners than my 600rr, not to mention the torque. It just feels more stable. I ride much faster, lower, harder through corners on this bike than i did on my 600rr, although im sure experience has also played a role in that. 929+ a set of pilot powers FTW.
You wont be dissapointed, just check it as you would any bike for signs of problems. Also not really recommended for beginners.

i would say $4k would be the absolute lowest you could find for a mint one IMO. Liter bikes in excellent condition hold their value extremely well. Althought this is the best time of year to pick one up.

Well 929s around here in Va don't hold their value as well as similar big bikes (such as an R1). 954s go for about a grand higher, and there is a mint '01 929 with around 8k and some nice mods for 4.5k. It really depends on the market/location

Great bikes. My friend had the blk/yellow one which was incredibly sexy w/ erion exhaust and a scotts steering damper. He sold it for $2500 w/ close to 40k miles on it. The only problems he experienced were all wear items. Good luck, they are super bikes.
I use to have one, it was lowered, had a BMC race filter, geared, and an FE. It is a pretty nice bike. They feel heavier than they are, the aftermarket isn't the best for them really. They are pretty quick but its no Gsxr 1000 or ZX10. Very reliable though.

Which in my opinion, is an asset.
I'd rather have the lighter more flickable literbike with less horsepower and comfortable ergo's.
