I guess all the signs pointed to this but I still would have liked to see him back for 2003. Congrats on a great career Mika!

I spent all morning weeping. The only thing I can see that is positive about Mika not coming back is that I got to see his last race in person.
to Mika and
to a great career.

I hear you Mika! Children do change your perspective on life. My second son was born three weeks ago.
Spoken buy an old (38) track rat that traded his S2000 six months ago for an Odyssey minivan!

Pity to see him go, but his last season seemed to really wear on him. The writing was on the wall when he took the year off. Not too many people leave F1 in any form and can return. The only one who comes to mind was Alain Prost.
hey, the Odyssey still got VTECH skillz y0! They're actually reasonably quick and I think a big fat rear swaybar would really liven up the steady-state cornering, since it tends to develop a push there in my experience... Oi, it's happening again.

"At least we can still feel the excitement of a Hakkinen post-race interview whenever Kimi Raikkonen finishes on the podium."
So true.
So true.
I never thought I'd say this about a minivan, but I actually enjoy driving the damn thing! It's a 2002, 240 hp, 5 speed auto, gets 26.5 mpg crusing at 70 mph and hauls a ton of crap.
Pray for me!

Scott, for whom, when he was a kid, Niki Lauda was THE Champion.....
I'll always remember that pass he put on Schumacher at Spa.
"him crying in the bushes at Monza because he F*ed up"
Mika was a great driver, but to me that charade at Monza was uncalled for.

Well, firstly let's not bring in the value or worth of personal merits, ok? Secondly, him crying in the bushes proved what? That he couldn't take the pressure any longer. Hakkinen was great, but he wasn't and never will be the best, he retired on cue, and should be applauded for it; personally after MS retires I've got my money on KR to be the next WC. It was uncalled for b/c crying trackside doesn't remedy anything, going faster next time out does.
Easy to say from the grandstands.

As far as I know, neither you nor I are grand prix drivers, nor is anyone here; to the best of my knowledge. So, weather you defend or critique it's all benchracing at the end of the day. So, who cares, my point was that breakdown showed that Mika was bowing to the pressure, and as a grand prix driver; was probably tapped out. Didn't say it was wrong, immature, or anything other than uncalled for, there's enough primadonna behavior in the paddock; we don't need the drivers crying on top of that, also, whats he crying about, honestly? He's driving in the worlds premier racing league, getting paid handsomly, and has championships under his belt. If it were me, I'd be frustrated, but I'd be in the paddock talking it over w/ my team and trying to figure out what happened, thats all.

McLaren might run a third car in the near future, says Ron Dennis. I thought it would be interesting if McLaren had DC, Kimi and Mika as a driving line-up. But, oh well.
In honesty, can you imagine the $$ they'd spend on the those three drivers?
I don't think even McLaren, 1/2 owned by Mercedes can spend that much money
