Shell Optimax Fuel
Shell has a fuel in Europe called Optimax. Optimax fuel is supposed to remove deposits that have formed on valves - increasing engine response. EVO magazine did a review (they were skeptical) of the fuel to see if it actually did what it claimed - one of the test cars was a Honda Civic and they found amazing results after using the fuel for a short time.
Can any of our European members comment on the fuel? Have you used it in your R? And more importantly, does anybody know if Shell plans to bring Optimax to the U.S.?

From what I've heard - it's ****. This is only a rumour, and probably isnt true, but apparently one of the additivies is camel ****. Anyway, here in Australia there are a few providers of 98 RON Fuel. There is BP Ultimate, Mobil Synergy 8000 and Shell Optimax. Of the three, I find Shell the worst. I get the best fuel consumption from Ultimate, but I think Synergy is equally as good.

I've been using shell Optimax (91 octane) here in canada form about 8-9 months now (about 4 months after purchase). The highest octane we can get commercially here is 94, but I don't like those gas stations that offer it. Shell Optimax is my gasoline of choice. It is marketed as being a more responsive gas. Supposed to maker my engine "nervous" (direct translation from french)

EDIT: It's the same price as other 91 octanes/"super" gas

Optimax in the UK is 98.6 ron iirc. Where I live it is about US$0.25 per gallon more expesive than normal gas (95). When you take into account the cost of gas here anyway, it doesn't cost that much more, and is the same price as other 97/98 fuels.
It is about US$4.15 per US Gallon for optimax whereas normal 95 is about US$3.90
edited to avoid confusion
Thanks for the info dutchie

Don't confuse those Americans, hehe. We use RON here and they use octane (=RON+MON/2). US octane is about 4 points lower than RON!!! So, 98 RON = 94 octane.
I have used it in my R for the last 6 months and wouldnt use anything else now, its not that much more expensive than super unleaded so i dont mine paying a little bit more for a higher octane fuel.
A lot of the guys over here in the UK with Rs rate Optimax too.
Mine is a JDM Import so the higher the octane I can get the better - and yes when I started using optimax i noticed a difference.

I Have only used Sunoco 94 and Shell Optimax fuel in my ride since 98.
I have honestly never felt a differance between the two, but I ussualy opt for the Sunoco for the higher Octane.

It pisses me off that i can't get BP Ultimate in my area.
So if we are getting decent fuel after all, then why is Honda still using our fuel as an excuse not to give us the proper JDM vehicles?
That's called octane booster. With our compression (11.1) and our good quality 98 RON fuel we don't need that unless you're going to 13:1 compression or something..
shell is the officail sponsor for team Ferrari in F1 racing...........i wonder if shell accually provides the racing fuel Ferrari uses?
personally i use Sunoco or Esso supreme here in toronto. 92 octane for both.....

there was just an article done in EVO magazine, its a europe car mag. very good one at that
after numerous tests, and engine tear downs, there actually was a benefit to running the special shell gas.
on the high revving CTR, and m3 smg, they found it help perforamance, and keeping the valves cleaned up
