I want to swap fronts with another guy but he don't know which red the front end is. I know the si's were milano red. There is also roma red. Is there a way to figure it out, maybe from the vin stickers?
Not via the VIN, but there should be a paint code sticker on the car....driver's side door jamb, I think. FWIW, I'm seeing that there was THREE choices in those two years - R-97 Roma Red, R-96P Inza Red Pearl, and R-81 Milano Red.
NOFX has a pretty good (OK, excellent) general trim breakout here:

Good luck!

this thread has all of the 96-00 civic colors broken down into color, location (i.e. usdm, edm, jdm, etc), years, and then body style 6G 1996-2000 Honda Civic OEM Colors (With Photos)
Inza Red was sedans. I'm a little shady on the actual years, but I believe it was up until at least '99. Sedans came with chrome grille trim and more slots in the grille. Inza Red is a maroon color in person and it has a pearl in it.
The '96-'00 coupes came with Milano Red.
The '96-'00 hatches came with Roma Red.
Si grilles have a mesh while the coupes and hatches have the same painted grille shell and fewer slots than the sedans.
Overseas hatches came in Milano Red too.
the only ones you'll mi up are Roma and Milano. Milano is the tricoat paint and has a tendency to look slightly different colors in different light levels because of this.
This photoshoot will show the similarities between Roma and Milano. They're pretty close, but Roma is more orange while Milano is more pink by comparison. It's not something you can usually tell without a visual comparison.

This photoshoot isn't the best comparison, but if you bring a piece of your car to check you should be able to tell. Then again, other cars of the same color will probably also differ slightly.
As him what body the parts came off of. Hopefully he knows that.
If he doesn't know, see if he can send you the VIN off one of the panels (bumper and hood might have them, as could others). Then search and figure out which body they came off of.

It wouldn't be horrible, but it'd be noticeable.
Some cars have a slight color different from age between two panels. When those cars are posted online it's usually mentioned that, "Why is your door a different color?"
And that's with the same color panels, just with age.
Yes you will be able to tell, but I wouldn't worry about it if you NEED a new front end. At least they have paint and won't rust as soon as you put them on. If you need a front end and there is a painted front available to you, I don't care if it's silver, put it on. Paint can wait if needed.
This isn't like putting an unpainted bodykit on your car.
Here is a better photo of the two colors compared.
