Default We need a detailing thread.

Seeing that there have been a few changes to the site in the recent months (classic hondas, ruckus and scooters, engine management and tuning, transmission and drivetrain, and brakes) and through some personal experiences that I've had recently involving my own car, I think we should have a detailing thread under the Technical section.

Inspired by sites such as http://www.autopia.org and http://www.detailingworld.co.uk, i've recently become an enthusiast on how to keep cars clean the right way, rather than a wash and wax with generic products. I think it'd be a good way for people to learn how to take better care of their car, ask questions, and show off some of their work on their cars. It won't change into an appearance/cosmetic section, but it will be more focused on thorough detailing and cleaning and maintaining a proper looking car (aka not the place to post pix of a wash/wax with the crap you bought at Pepboys). Look at the forums on DetailingWorld.co.uk for more examples of what I'm talking about. I just think it'd be nice to see what people can do with our types of cars (not limited to just honda/acura) and it'd be nice to see our crowd take more pride in their passion.

yes, but it has nothing to do with keeping a car clean. It's primarily for body work or prep work for painting a car, or questions about the painting process itself. No questions are asked about maintainting a car's finish or improving the car's appearance (inside and out) with the existing condition.

EDIT: and there are no step by step processes (like a build thread almost) of before/after shots that will inspire people to take better care of their vehicles.

i've seen that, but it's also a very generic write up and each sub-topic essentially could have an entire thread dedicated to explaining thoroughly what to use and how to use it, as well as reviews on products. "tire dressing" and "wax" are pretty damn generic, as there are probably 30 products of each that range from shitty to perfect to achieve different results. I see it as a place to review products and ask specific questions, from waxes to shampoos, sealants to clays, to trim dressings to metal polishes.

There, read that thread and you'll never need to know anything more about detailing ever again.

seen it. i'd just like to see a place where people post their honda related jobs. i go to car shows and see 9/10 people's cars that are show look like **** up close, and could truly be show car status if they put in an extra 2 hours of their time, etc. not to mention, a lot of people go spend 500+ on a a paint job when all that's needed is a really good detail.

There was a 30+ page detailing thread like this that used to be stickied at the top of the A/C forum.

It was one of these IIRC:

I doubt this site needs an entire forum dedicated to just detailing.

WTF do I know...whatever

i agree that this site should have detailing sections. it would probably be faster than some other threads that hardly move on here. i think there are quite a few people on here who are detailers and also quite a few who would benefit from such a section. i myself hate having to go to other forums to find things that i wish were right here on HT. a detailing section is a good idea and gets my vote.

I really had no idea about detailing, or what was even possible until I bought my BMW last year and ventured beyond h-t . On most BMW forums there are sections for detailing and you can learn alot. Here's a good example....

Just because others take more pride in their own vehicle....

The way I'd see it, is it could very well have the aforementioned threads stickied to the top, as well as a few others that would be written up, but it would just be a place to show what some effort can do, not just an appearance cosmetic place where people ***** out their parts, but the labor itself that they put into the car. I bought basic stuff for a while, then once i saw the results that i can get from putting a little more effort and using more stages of cleaning/products, it's more motivation to keep the car looking as good as it runs. A lot of the step-by-step threads are very helpful and motivational, and I think a lot of people would want to see what they can do. Plus I think it'd be nice to see a bunch of before/after and 50/50 shots of HONDA products, not just a bunch of BMWs, Benzs, and Euro cars.

This was the first place I looked when I wanted to use a clearcoat cleaner, polish and wax for my car but there was no official thread so I had to go elsewhere.

So I'm all for a detailing thread
