Default Advice with overpowering bass

I'm not big into car audio so I was looking for some advice.

I just bought a 93 Civic that came with a newer Pioneer HU, cheap Pioneer speakers all around (straight to HU), and a 10" Alpine type R sub/RF 1000w amp.

The first thing I did was remove the sub because it was pretty annoying. It sounded as if the bass was overpowering everything. My question is: If I installed an amp and better mids/highs, would that even things out or will I always have overpowering bass with this sub/amp?

My end goal is a well-rounded "normal" audio setup suitable for a daily driver. I am also on a budget, so I was thinking of FCM's classic suggestion of Eclipse speakers and JL 300/4 amp.

Thoughts/opinions?

well yea but you know you need a voice amp for the speakers in the car because if they are connected to the HU and put bass into it for the sub the voice will sound crappy. so get a voice amp and connect your speakers to it then when you have both amps on it will even out so your speakers will play voice only and your sub pure bass.

I know your trying to help, and your right, the OP needs another amp, but there is no such thing as a "voice amp" and just installing another amp will not "even out" anything and definitely not "play voice only" from the "speakers". 94

Why not just turn down the sub amp?

You could set the gain lower on the amp for the sub, but if you still have factory speakers in the car, it is going to have to be minimal.
Upgrade the sound system one item at a time, if your working on a budget. Having great sound in your car can get very pricey, very quickly. What I would suggest is upgrading just the front speakers to a pair of components.
Brand wise is going to be up to you, and only you. Everyone expects something different from a speaker, and to someone a pair of $1000 DLS components might sound worse than a set of $150 Clarion's.
