I'm comming up on 30k miles on my 07 sedan si. I was reading about how honda said the civics dont need any "tune-ups" untill 110k miles. well im in the process of getting new tires and thought what else is there to do... dont spark plugs, fuel filters, tranny fluids, stuff like need service from time to time? i can understand belts, water pump and other major stuff at 110k. just not everything else on the car..... ive looked around and cant seem to find anything in the manual or on the honda owner link explaining any of this.... if anyone knows or finds it please direct me in the right direction.

I think they give the car an oil change, clean and inspect the brakes, top off all fluids and tire rotation.

 

30k ur supposed to do a drain and fill for your tranny fluid. oil change, inspect brakes, im gonna do a coolant flush at 30k. rotate tires, the terminals on the battery might need some cleaning, pretty much just check all your fluids

I'll be doing these in a couple of weeks.

 

Pretty much a routine check up except they want to actually dig into the car unlike their express service.

Best way to find out about it is to call the dealership/service center and ask.

I doubt any dealer is going to flush your master cyinder....


As for a 30k service. The dealer I work for sells it as: LOF, tranny fluid change, coolant change, tire rotation, front and rear maintenence (inspect rotors/drums,pads/shoes, clean and lubricate slides,molycoat pads/shoes with a antiseize high temp lube mixture, and adjust rear shoes where applicable), and also we lube your window tracks, hood/door latches, and silicone your weatherstriping,and change your air filter

We don't completely flush out the brake fluid out the resevoir. We take some out and keep adding until its cleaner. Used to bleed the brakes at each caliper but now they conserve brake fluid cause we used a lot when we bled each caliper. I prefer doing it just by the resevoir.

 

A 30k at my honda dealer is new air filter,cabin filter, oil change,trans drain and fill, coolant drain and fill, rotate and balance tires and clean and adjust brakes.
All easy things

 

your car has maint. minder system, it will generaly call for a b12 service around the 25-30k mark, which is basic check over, air filter and cabin filter and oil change. trans fluid usually doesnt come up till 60k mark, and coolant is gonna be around the 100k mark when too you will cahnge the plugs and adjust the valves. Honda designed the mant. minder system === follow it

As for the cabin filter, the BIG,BIG box store sells a FRAM filter for approx. $20.00 and inside the filter box is all the instructions "location" to change the filter. Takes less than 10 mins. & my dealer wanted more than $75.00!!

 

I had a brake fluid change at the dealer (30K maintainance) and when I checked after the job, the master cylinder was very low on fluid. I think they just siphon the master cylinder dry and put new fluid in - at $75 a pop! (Less than $5 worth of fluid). I was under the false assumption that they opened the bleeders at the brake cylinders and totally flushed it - that is the way it should be done. Needless to say, I won't fall for that sucker deal again.

 

I have an 06 Civic with 93,000 miles. Dealer says to flush the power steering fluid for over $100. Everywhere else I try to read says NEVER change power steering fluid unless it is contaminated. ALSO, does the 06 Civic need a valve adjustment or do they self adjust? Thanks. Any good independent service personnel in Westchester County, NY?

 

You can change the PS fluid whenever you want. DO NOT let them charge you $100 to do it. Here's a couple of DIYs:

And the valves do not self adjust.

Yea, do it yourself - a very easy job. I measure the volume I remove and replace with equal amounts. That prevents overfills, given the amount in the transmission was correct when you begin the process. Dealers charge alot for this simple procedure.
