Just FYI-
I got to see a Mugen Cat Back System on an ITR today. First off the quality is top notch and it is quiet. However, I did not ride in the car but I'd expect it would also be quiet inside.
Here's a pic of the tip, sorry no side shot.
Specs:
The weird thing is the B pipe up to the resonator is 54.5mm (2.146") OD, which is smaller than the stock ITR after its bottle neck. The resonator is about 125mm OD. The outlet tubing from the resonator is 60.5mm OD. The twin loop muffler tubing is also 60.5mm, I believe I've seen it stated that it was around 57mm OD and I may have even stated that myself but I believe that is for the tubing on the Mugen Civic Si system. I apologize.
Here is a pic of the B pipe flange that had a 2-1/2" ID outlet cat bolted up to it.

The Mugen ITR axle back will not bolt on to the stock b-pipe, and vice versa.
Thought I wouldd clarify abit more.
the Mugen ITR axle back is shorter than the stock axle back. (mugen b-pipe being longer in that sense)
However, I am not sure if the flanges of the mugen/stock are of the same size. HTH

At International Auto Salon 2001 King Motorsports had a twin loop muffler cut in half and you could see that the piping that went through the canister was ~.25-.50" smaller than the piping that carried the exhaust from the header...I wish that I had some pics that.

Mine is quite loud - actually very loud. But I have aftermarket cams and run a test pipe too.
Mine is loud as well with stock cams, carsound cat and JDM header. I should make a sound clip of it, it sounds cool though, not like those fart cans.

I believe the joint is still a flex type, does the stock donut fit in that joint or is a new/larger one provided with the system? Is there any reduction in tube diameter at the axle back joint? Anyone with pictures?

RA who use to own the Mugen catback that is now on an HT.com member's car...
I didn't think the Mugen TL could be loud. I've heard an ITR with the Mugen TL and a Civic Si and both cars were very quiet (like stock). IMO, nice looking system but can't justify spending that much money for a small diameter exhaust like it..

there is no reduction in the axle back joint....and the stock donut does not fit ....it is the LARGE "JDM" donut .....sorry wish I had pictures...but I know what I state is true.....
What is the purpose of having the bottleneck after the catalytic converter?
The thought I had on the after-cat bottle neck is that it allowed the catalytic converter to heat up quicker and give more residence time for the exhaust gases. This is just a guess. Anybody have any input on this?
DutchITR1689 you seem to be a steady member of the H-Tech morning crew. I guess it is day time over there for you.

When I installed my Mugen exhaust I was amazed at how nice it was and how well it was constructed.
I love the sound in WOT and I like the fact that at normal driving it is almost as quiet as stock.

I absolutely love mine. While deep down we all think that maybe we get a few extra horses from these exhausts, it's really all about the look and the sound, and on that score the Mugen gets lots of points.
It's welded together almost as nicely as my $4000 Ti mountain bike frame, the finish is perfect, the fit is perfect, the tip looks great on the back, and most importantly, it DOESN'T SOUND ANYTHING LIKE A CHEAP CRAP FARTBOMB. That's the main reason I got it. It's very deep (vibrates my car with this lovely huuummmmmmm) but not super loud. I do notice that it gets louder as it warms up.
Probably not worth a grand, but the ricers love it.
