Transmission Fluid options
I tried searching but it doesn't give me any results, ever, on anything i search.
Anyways, i need to know what is the best automatic transmission fluid that there is for a '96 accord. Im installing a tranny cooler soon and i want to use the best, best oil there is out there for the autotranny. I heard GM syncromesh is great, but for manual transmissions only. Can it be used on auto's? i'm just looking to upgrade. Thanks. I've found great info on everything else i needed for this car (i just bought it), especially the IACV/FITV cleaning procedure. Thanks again.

Im on the trial mode so i must use my posts wisely
-i see you have no quick reply option? well
-tranny cooler just seems like a good choice, seeing as how i live in Miami and i drive alot, and alot of that driving is in heavy traffic...
I also had a question about motor oil, im running 0w20 Mobil 1 right now, which is great, but everytime i tell someone they flip out like my car is gonna die soon. And it runs great! But they keep telling me to up the weight. What do you reccomend?
Also, i hadn't seen the red search button lol.
Its just my daily. I just want it to last me for a while. i baby it a lot. that's why.
EDIT: So i searched and what basically i came up was a lot of unanswered posts or just straight up "OMG HONDA ATF ONLY" posts.
What about B&M synthetic oil ? what about GM syncromesh? i mean there's got to be an answer

Not really necessary to have a cooler, and I know about the 5 post limit haha so I'll try to elaborate a bit.
1) I'd use the recommended oil per the manual for your area, 0w20 does seem quite unusual to use. It should be 5w30 dino oil (not synthetic or syn blend) Just double check - you could call the dealers around you even and see what they put in, the newer Hondas use 5w20, older were 5w30 but your dealer may recommend something else.
Also along those lines, there is no need for the "high mileage" oil unless you're having leaking problems, this stuff causes your rubber seals to swell to prevent leaks = not worth it if you're having no issues.
2) No real reason to have a tranny cooler, the F22 transmissions in our cars are fairly strong and don't have many problems at all. Just do a drain and refill every so often (drain and refill x3)
So long as the maintenance is kept up just normal honda schedule it'll last 300k miles easy

#1 reason? It's strictly formulated for Hondas, they just recently redesigned it to help out. The transmissions do not have a filter that's serviceable like some cars which is why other oils aren't usually recommended neither are tranny fluid flushes.
GM Synchromesh is for manuals to help with gear grinds, BUT with Honda's latest MTF they also have put in additives to do the same thing, just from Honda.
I've never personally messed with Redline or B&M so can't give you a "why not" I can just safely say that with Honda ATF in my one car it's at 187k? something around there and is running tip top. As with my other Accord with Honda MTF @ 219k that sees track time.

didn't honda switch for 5w20 for the J series V6? and all their newer cars?
the reason we all say honda atf only is because it's thinner and flows better than any other oil. and honda isn't gonna be too willing to good will a trans repair if you are using other stuff in it.

I can't quote on the exact model of switchover.
My mom's 01 Odyssey uses 5w20 that's the earliest car my family has with that as the recommended.
