Mini-Me Swap. need to clear up a few things.
im using a z6 head and a Y7 block.
What head studs?
i have heard to use 3 different kinds.
i have ARP z6 ones, and the y7 ones...
what timing belt?
i have read VX, z6 and y7.
i have y7 and z6.
i plan on making a thread after im done with all of this for questions in the future.
any help is great.. thanks.
It's been a few years since I've put one together so my memory is a wee bit hazy, but I'm pretty sure I used a timing belt for a Z6 and a tensioner for a Y7. I have no recollection of which head bolts I used (I didn't get spend the bucks for ARP studs though).
z6 timing belt if using z6 head and cam/gear
combination of both if I remember right on the head studs. I want to say it is 2 from a y7 rest are z6.
don't quote me as it has been forever and I am relearning d series now

Headstuds are 1 Y7 in the top left corner by the VTEC solenoid, the rest are Z6.
Timing belt, I don't think it matters honestly, but to be safe match the belt with the head. Just make sure to check it when you set your timing, turn the crank one full rotation and make sure all of your lines still line up to TDC.

It's the other way around, one z6 in the back left corner and the rest y7. The z6 bolts are 140mm and the y7 are 120mm. Youn eed one long bolt in the corner. z6 belt

Really? Nothing at all?
Really? Nothing at all?
b7/z6 compared to y7/z6 head bolt and timming belt info dont apply. Actually the two link dont even specify what to use. y7/y8, same story. The only info in those links that do apply is removing the old parts and bolting the new on,not the specifics. Someone basically saying "search" and then posting bad info as links. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by ddd4114 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

I mean, they all have to do with d-series head swaps, and the procedure is very similar. I didn't think "your links have nothing to do with this swap and dont apply" was an appropriate response...
i understand you have a y7 block but this will clear up your timing belt situation.
IMPORTANT: Several places on the net and several people on Honda-Tech say that the VX (D15Z1) timing belt is the one to use for this swap because it is for a 1.5L VTEC. THIS IS INCORRECT! When I did the initial head swap, I used a VX timing belt. The VX timing belt was WAY too tight, and whined when the engine was at high rpm. I unfortunately did not discover this until the entire head was assembled. The VX timing belt has 103 teeth, where as the Z6 timing belt has 104 teeth, and the B7 belt 106 teeth. I was finally able to replace the VX timing belt with the Z6 timing belt, and the Z6 timing belt fit much better and didn’t whine.
