Default Setting timing with NO timing belt cover?

I'm trying to get rid of my code 9 on my DOHC ZC. I know that it's the CPS for the #1 cylinder and everything. Wiring is good and the sensor is brand new.
Now I'm just asking what is the best way to set timing without having the timing belt cover?

take your spark plug wire off and unscrew the spark plug. Put a long screw driver or rod into the hole and rotate the crank til it reaches its highest point.

How does that help him set the ignition timing ? you need the cover so you can use a timing light

if you can make your own markings reference to the crank pulley's TDC marking, you can use a digital timing such as this one from Actron.

CP7529 Digital Timing Light

it's what i use when the TDC and ignition timing marks on most aftermarket crank pulleys are missing or not etched. i do have the timing belt cover in most part as my reference though but i can see no reason why you can't if the belt cover is missing(provided you make your own marking/reference point for TDC as i mentioned previously).

after keying in the recommended ignition timing or your prefered timing in degrees with the gun, all you need to do is look at the TDC mark while pointing the tool at it as it strobes.

Um, why do you not have a timing belt cover.

I would NEVER drive a car without at least the bottom one.

Use four straws in the cylinders. Turn the motor over till the straws are all the way up.
Are you only missing the outside covers?

Bought the motor with no timing covers already...was never an issue until I swapped my head

I found a guy who sold me the timing cover...I should be good as soon as it gets here
