3rd gear pull, spark plugs are brite white!! lean??
ok, bought some new plugs, took it for a test drive, did a 3rd gear pull and shut off engine at 8k rpm, pulled over to the side and pulled out spark plug # 1 and it was white! is this a lean mixture? also checked it with normal driving and its white too.. this is on a stock b20vtec motor. I get about 26-28mpg with this thing.
yes white means its running lean. a little bit of white is ok. If the entire plug is white and heavily coated thats not good.
A white insulator is fine, as long as there are no little black spots. Those are the start of detonation, any Al specs and you have had detonation. The color ring to check the fuel is at the bottom of the insulator where it meets the metal housing, to read it you usually need a magnafying glass and light source.

how big are those little black spots suppose to be? i do see some but they are very very tiny ones. they are smaller than this black spot . <---
