pistons....
i have a d16a6 block and i have a set of z6 pistons laying around i wanted to know if they would work in the a6 someone told me the deck hight was diffrent but if my rods it should be the same right?

i recently did a mini-swap with a y8 head and rebuilt my a6 block using z6 pistons and rods. my idea was to have the mini swap and still have compression in the 9's for turbo down the road without using vitaras or expensive turbo pistons. i've had it running for about 1500 miles now with no issues at all. so yes, in my experience, you can use z6 pistons and rods in an a6 block with no issues. it will just lower you're compression from using the stock a6 pistons. compression according to the calculator on c-speed would be around 9.1:1. check it out here...

To answer your og question... A6 block w/z6 head, w/ z6 pistons = bastard z6... on paper, all measurements would be same as a stock z6, including compression ratio. and yes rods are same length in the motor, as is deck height.
The opposite used to be an all motor d series trend... throwing a6 pistons in a z6 to raise compression a [pejorative] hair.
If I'm taking the time to tear my motor apart to do new pistons it better be more than .2 compression of a difference to be worth it IMO.
