Default LS/Vtec Soon to be tuned.... suggestions needed

So the bottom end on my ctr swap is no longer any good(dont wanna go into it cause it brings back memories). So I had an ls block in my shed which i sent to the machine shop to get hot tanked and honed. Im swapping the block, and my setup is gonna consist of the following....

blox ls/vtec kit
arp rod bolts
arp head studs
acl bearings
p72 polished crank
p72 rods
oem p30 pistons and rings
oem timing belt
oem water pump
stock ctr head
ctr tranny
tri-y small tube header

It will be fully tune on a p28 with crome software

any suggestions will be appreciated. Do i need adjustable cam gears right now? Do I need upgraded injectors or will ctr injectors work fine for now? Should i take a layer off the head gasket?

thanks in advance

personally ive build plenty of ls vtec's....i would keep the ls rods cause of the stroke, and your safe with the head gasket and injectors...no need to take the any layers off of it....if your planning on putting some cams in and any other parts that would bring more air flow in then i would recommend injectors 310 or 315 cc should be good!

great setup man!

Yea the reason im running the gsr rods is because i was planning on doing ctr pistons and i figured there would be more room for error with p72 assembly. But then i realized i dont wanna daily drive on pct pistons. Well thanks for the input i appreciate it man

who'd they copy? GE?

good luck on the build just make sure you get the rod refreshed after the arp install, your didnt list that i wasnt sure if your doing it or not. you go with the new wave-loc arps?

keep injectors stock and cam gears

Yea I got the rods shotpeened and they look brand new. I just got the regular arp's though. Gonna start putting it together today. I got all the parts except for the timing belt and water pump which should be all set after work.

thanks for the advice

i dont mean shot peened, i mean getting the big end of the rod re-sized since installing the arp bolts changes the big end.

It's not an LS/Vtec if you are using a p72 crank...

What makes an LS/Vtec is the increased stroke, not the stamp on the block...

see this is what happened.... i had the ctr swap for 3 years now and i had always wanted to stroke it. So i bought gsr crank and rods to use with pct pistons. So then my ctr bottom end blew. I had an ls block, and a polished p72 crank and shotpeened rods the ends resized for arp rod bolts. So i put that together since i already had everything ready to go. so yea your right its not an ls/vtec, it turns out to be a stroked ctr wich is what i wanted in the first place lol

yes i know its destroked. I didnt do this to do ls/vtec, I did it this way cause thats the parts i had, and since its a daily driver, i didnt have time for anything else

but this thing should still be a pretty good setup right?

PCT/CTR Pistons are CRAP..understand that now, they are not a good piston, they're horrible on the combustion process and to be honest, they'll create more problems then what they help, if they aren't in a b16..

Longer/crank/rods from a gsr, which are longer and create a bigger stroke then the b16b, will then create more problems, specially if you run bigger cams and have to gear tune.

Why not, just save your money, get a cheap ls crank, they're like 100 bucks, ls rods, are really cheap too, and arp rod bolts cheap.. get u some gsr pistons or typer pistons if ur sticking with oem and call it a day.

if you save up, it'll probably take about 300 bucks, to get a ls crank and rods..golden eagle sells ls cranks for around 100 bucks.. you need to search ctr pistons they're completely garbage.. and heavy as ****.

Yea, it will be all right. As long as you as it's put together well, it should not have any problems.

Well on your way then.
Glad your researching as you go, i'd suggest pm Golden Eagle about a true ls crank / rods tho.
