can i use a 97' OBD2 dizzy in a 92' OBD1?

Negative. One of them has 1 plug and the other has 2.

i know they make conversion harnesses but i didn't know if that was one of the options

The only conversion harness I know of is a ECU jumper harness, so you can run obd1 ecu's on obd2 cars. I have never seen one for the distributor?
