Default Oil burn-off (EM1)

I'm loosing about 2-2 1/2 qts. of oil every 2500 miles. There are absolutely zero leaks and the motor is completely stock. I use Castrol High mileage as the car is approaching 130,000 miles. The car runs as if it was brand new and idle is spot on with manufacturers specs. I am at a loss as to why I would be burning so much? I rarely engage vtec, if at all, I change the oil between 2000 and 2500miles, motor has plenty of power, and is running on all stock components.

We are going to run a compression test, but other than that, I am at a loss. Any idea's?

Pistons rings seized in the ring lands... time for a re-ringing. Typical Honda problem.

Any way to test for this and be certain before I crack open the case?

I noticed that I haven't lost any oil in 400 miles, but I haven't hit vtec once. Could a long trip or a few vtec hits cause that much oil burn off?

You could gamble and Sea Foam it, but if it doesn't go well, you'll have to rebuild the engine.

Go hit VTEC and look in your rearview mirror for smoke. It could be your valve seals, but do a leakdown test to check for rings.

UPDATE:

Well haven't got around to test, but I'll tell you one thing that's concrete. I haven't had ANY oil burn-off in 1,000 miles. I also didn't engage VTEC in those 1,000 miles. So, the other day I decided to test the theory and rip on it 3 times. Came back to the house, let the car sit for 30min while off and vuallah! I had burned a little less than a qt. of oil. Checked it again 1 hour later and same level.

So, What does this tell me? Motors old and need new seals or what? Again, no oil residue on motor or any sign of leaks.

It means your engine is tired and needs new rings.
