what does the burning of a clutch smell like
i was just wondering becuase latley i was doing a few burnouts, and i what to know the difference between tires burning and clutch buring.
i got a little more carefull b/c last time i " burned out " the car was sawying from left to right about a foot wide from either side, moving forward slightly and at the same time ,there was a buring smell but i hardly saw any smoke from tires. the clutch i have is prettry expensive and i did let go of the clutch ( poping it ) was it a tires spinning or did i slipp the clutch ? the engine was rev around 3 ,4 k
btw i drive a 92 accord with a 2001 h22 prelude engine and trans and i dont do BO often just on moody occations , also later that day i was checking the clutch by driving , i did the stall test , the rpm = speed test and driving at higher speeds in 4th gear and 5th . the car passed i didnt feel any slippage nor i had that smell again. does that mean it is still good ?

but you won't be able to tell just by doin burnouts u have to drive the car. But just by doin burnouts and the engine just taching away and no tire smoke that means you have a problem buddy. Good luck with ur next clutch install!!!

Smells quite similar to overheated brake pads, which shouldn't be surprising since the friction driven plate friction linings are made from a fairly similar kind of substance to brake pads.
It is going to smell nothing like tires. Burning asbestos, or metal would be the best way I could describe it... but you'll know if the clutch slips long before it starts burning to the point where the smell is noticeable. Once you can notice a smell you might as well find a new flywheel or find a machinist that can turn it for you.

Not to me a clutch job is not nothing to play with especially if one person is installing it in their driveway

Splitting the Tranny from the block while both are still in the car is a pain in the ***.
