Default accord with h22 ecu question

i just joined the forums.

any ways, i have a 92 accord that i am working on at an autobody at school that has an h22 dropped in it.
one day i was driving and my engine light was on, so i jumped the wires to have the codes flash. i get code 12 ( long flash , 2 short flashes ) which is my egr valve lift senser.

does this mean i need to replace it, inspect it ,or is it faulty reading , i dont feel or see any symptoms from engine.

p.s another question , in the h22 motor, there is a hole covered by a rubber cap , if you move the cap ,you get a slight view of the flywheel from top. what is it for, just to check the flywheel ?

You're referring to the rubber plug near the block ID? Then yes that is normal. I'm personally not sure of what its use is but it's supposed to be there.

If it's a bad sensor code then I'd:

1) Make sure it was there
2) Make sure it wasn't unplugged
3) Make sure the wiring looked ok (to ECU and sensor)
4) Replace the sensor if all the above were good
