I have been working on 99 gsr for about a year now. a mechanic rebuilt the motor and put it in for me but had family issues and has left the rest with me. i have done everything else including checking the timing and valve adjustments. i turned it over and its sputtering to start but not firing up. i didnt want to keep trying since i do not know if there are special procedures in starting a new motor. any tips would be appreciated.

 

well some thing you should always check are your fuses, maybe 1 or 2 are blown, that can keep your car from starting.

next you wanna check for spark

after that you wanna check for gas

by sputtering you mean its turning over ? ( cranking)

 

it means he gets the occasional spark at the occasional time to burn some fuel it is your timing bud it is not right did you put the white notch at tdc and both the words up pointing up on the cam gears and did you retighten the tensioner bolt

 

yeah im getting spark and fuel. i thought i checked the timing but im a newby so ill double check it.
