Spark, Fuel, No Start...How do I check timing?
How can I check timing when my car won't start?
I'm getting spark, and fuel. It was 10 degrees out the other day, and the car was running like **** on start up...i pulled it out my driveway and parked it. An hour later I come out, and it won't start.
I smell fuel and have 40 lbs at the filter. Spark is good.
One of the plastic areas around the screw for the distributor cap broke. I know if you have a crack in your cap, it would render your car useless....but, i don't think its large enough crack or penetrating the cap.
So now how do I check my timing?!

On the cam there is an up and under that (on D series) theres a little dash that you could put to an arrow. On the 2 sides are dots on the cam gear with 2 dots on the back cover that you have to line up.
For the crank pully youll get 3 little dots then a white dot. White dot is TDC, you have to rotate to the dash on the side of the cover or when you find TDC with a long screwdriver through cylinder 1. If all matches together your timing is on. If not your off.

Had the same type of problems this week and my car was not getting compression. Why? because it was flooded so much or so long that it needed spark plugs removed, cleaned and dried. Oh, then the trick!!! while the spark plugs are out, take an oil can with a long enough hose to get into the cylinder and squeeze a little oil into each cylinder. This will allow the car to get compression again. You see the gas in the cylinder walls is causing to slick a surface and it doesn't have enough compression to start. Worked like a champ on my car. Hope this helps!!!
