what type of trans. fluid should i use for my d-seried trans.? i bought it from my friend and it had no fluid in it.

I use 1 quart GM synchromesh, rest honda MTF

 

I use Valvoline 10w-30 motor oil with a little bit of Lucas oil stabilizer
but I hear that the GM stuff is the best, fallowed by the Honda brand.
I have no dealers that carry it nearby so I use what my manual says.

Ewww.... you can get Honda MTF online.

I've always used nothing but Honda MTF, I'll add some synchromesh if it's starting to get a small grind.

 

Pennzoil Synchromesh.

Replaced it the week I got the Car and it Shifts mint every time.

Not sure about the Pennzoil stuff, maybe NAPA?

 

i use GM synchromesh you can get this from any GM dealer the pennzoil synchromesh is not the same as the GM. the GM synchromesh IMOP is the best you MTF you can use.

 

i hear alot about this 1 gm syncrmesh to 1 honda mtf. in my opinion i would use straight honda mtf. its specialy made for our transmissions. when i got my hatch tranny was rough always grinded in reverse. replaced it with Honda MTF and its like glass. i wouldnt be mixing different oils. they are manufactured differently.

honda mtf all day everyday. shifts sooo smooth.

yes true but i has to comply whith federal standards. mtf is different. it all come from crude oil but the refining process and chemical additives vary among manufacturer

 

so how much of the honda mtf should i use?

 

make sure the car is level afyer u drain the old fluid out. a real good easy way to pour in new fluid is the reverse light switch on the tranny. take that off dont loose the washer. niw the hole that is lable the fill hole needs to be open whe doing this. slowly pour in mtf. it shold take a little less than two quarts. its full when fluid drains out of the fill hole

 

I've used MTF, Pennzoil, Amsoil, and Royal Purple.

IMO, can't go wrong with MTF, Pennzoil, and Amsoil(which is what I run in my DOHC ZC transmission, but switched to regular MTF for the CRX Si transmission). Royal Purple seems to "wear out" quick; I wouldn't really recommended it. I had it in my Accord for maybe 10,000mi, and towards the end of that 10k miles the shifts weren't as smooth as when I first put it in.

I run GM syncromesh I'm told it's same factory as Hondas MTF but well it's cheaper and I have a ton spare from my t-56 job

its like u want to mix conventional oil withe synthetic. ur mixing **** that should not be mixed. there is a reason why honda sugest ussing only genuine mtf just like the suggest using genuine power steering fluid. the fluids are specifically designed for our vehicles. u could jepordize the longevity of ur trans

 

I tried GM synchromesh in my transmission and for some reason it made the car shift cleanly for a week or so but then actually made it worse, it was harder to get into gears and everything. I put honda MTF in it and the tranny shifts its best and stays that way. I would avoid anything but honda mtf after that experience....
