I know I need the ring gear and shaft but what else do I need.

If anyone can has part numbers that would be great.


On a side note can anyone tell me why the the 4.78 FD out of a 98 spec ITR tranny will not work in a b16a/b18b tranny tranny? Last I checked it couldn't be done but that was some time ago and matbe someone as figured out how to now.

The B16 FD will fit straight into your LS Tranny.

As for the JDM '98 4.785, this is not a direct fit in any tranny as the 1st gear is a different fitment. The only way to install this in a non-98 tranny is to also install the JDM '98 1st gear at the same time.

Don't forget the ring gear too!

Ring gear from B18C(x)/B16B is different than the LS/B16 open diff ring gear and they are not interchangeable

Are you saying I need the ring gear as well for swapping in the b16 4.4 FD or are you refering to needing to swap in the ring gear for the 4.78FD install?

FD = Ring Gear & Pinion.

 

So Mfactory what you are saying is that to install the 4.78 FD is I need:

1)FD (98 spec 4.78)
2)shaft (98 spec 4.78)
3)ring gear for either b18c/b16b
4)98 spec ITR 1st gear


Will the OEM LSD fit aswell?

 

You'll need the bearing and spacer for first gear as well with the JDM 4.7 FD. You can use an ITR LSD if you use the ring gear and countershaft that goes with it.

ok.
You are refering to the needle bearing for a b18cX and the spacer is above 1st or below the needle bearing and it would be for the b18cX aswell?

At this point I think I am going to use the b16a 4.4 FD or I may perhaps keep the 4.266 LS FD. I think with the MFactory 3,4,5 gear set (shortest sets) that with the 4.78 the gearing may be to short for what I want.

at this point can I upgrade 2nd gear to a b16/itr 2.105 without any other parts?

 

You can, yes, but after time it will chew itself up and cause a chain of destruction in your transmission

As a general rule of thumb, anything with less than 0.150 ratio difference is interchangeable (this is called Shift Factor).

2.105 - 1.900 = 0.205 = no no
