I'm preparing to paint my car, but I still have a few questions.
Ok so im in the middle of rebuilding and doing EVERYTHING myself to my EBP 00 Si over winter, heres a few questions hopefully harmonator will chime in , seems to be a man of some knowledge!
Im going to be spraying my car, have had TONS OF EXPERIENCE, in body work and aerosol, i can make spray paint looklike paint out of a compressor. I see a post in the paint and body talking about compressors and this and that. I also like most cant afford a 4k compressor, if i could the si would be at mob works
.
1.Whats the smallest compressor i could get away with , im going to be spraying the car in my storage unit so i dont have a big breaker to run i think its a 220v compressor.
2. The gun will say the psi i run at should it originally be set at it , or when the guns trigger is pressed?
3. About the entire mixing ratios when i get the paint i guess they wll be able to fill me in better , but is there a standard for the ratio or does it ever depent?
4.Whats the best way to set my garage up for paint? As far as circulation back out and such im thinking about getting a fan cracking the storage door and getting some plastic sealing and enclosing it back in?

How big is the storage unit you will be painting in? that is your first issue. If you can't get the overspray out of the unit fast enough there is only one other place for it to land...back on the car. Not a real big deal when spraying the base but if the clear lays back on it between rounds it may cause for a bad looking clear job but maybe not if you wet sand/buff good enough. ventilation is key...get fresh/clean air in and overspray right back out.
a 110 compressor will work but get as big of one as you can. You may try a rent-a-center for a compressor if you don't have the dough to buy one. Different paints use different mix ratios. We use Dupont chromabase and it is a 1:1 mix. your primers, bases, clears, etc will all be different. Don't be afraid to ask questions when buying paint they will help you out as long as it's a good supplier.
If you want to change the color I say go for it. It's really not hard especially after you do it once. Just make sure you do it right. Take everything completely off the car. We take every piece of trim, glass, etc off but I know quite a few people that leave the glass in just because of the expense of doing it if they can't do it themselves. Right down a plan of attack on the car. Start with the demo but label everyting in baggies or something so you know where everything goes when you put it back together. Hope I could help a bit let me know if you have any more questions.
