Default 2000 civic ex, redlining at 5000rpm and other days 7400

what would cause the car to only somtimes go to redline. most days it goes to 5 and wont go no high will just bounce off 5k.

yea, all the gauges work fine all the time. no other problems. just sometimes ill drop it into 1st and it redlines and the engines only at 5 grand. when i wanna race it redlines at 5 when i dont wanna race only wanna [freak] around it goes all the way and takes off fast. its a automatic d16y8. i do have a check engine light but havent checked it.

Check that CEl, and don't drop an automatic honda into first, they really don't like that.

well, that tranny is gone already every gear slips horiblly. i drove it dry on tranny fluid for a while untill i added some finnaly. so now im just tearing it up haveing fun. i got a standard ready to put in just need some time.

Auto to manual swap is easy as hell btw. I will warn you if you're doing neutral drops with that thing those axles may come out of the transmission very, very hard.

I had the same problem in my b16a2.....i had a loose wire in the vtec solenoid. Well at least for me, after i tighten it, the problem never came back.
