Default 2000 Accord SE AT fluid change

I found most of what I need in searches, but I wanted to ask a couple of clarifying questions.

If I'm just draining and refilling the AT fluid, is 3 quarts enough? One post I found mentioned that I would need more if it's been neglected. I didn't follow that.

I had the dealer do the 90K service, and I'm at 130K now. I change my own oil regularly but haven't done the AT since the last service.

The shifting is getting kind of jerky. Based on the other threads I read, I wondering if I've let it go too long and it really needs to be replaced. Go with Honda ATF? Seems to be the consensus.

Thanks,
-gshock

IMHO

98-02 accords should get their fluid changed (simple drain and fill) ONCE a year after about 36K miles regarless of miles driven during the year. should cost you less than $25 to do yourself with HONDA ATF

do a drain and fill but it isn't going to help that jerking as the trans is toast...... (been there done that)

First, I hate AT's but I needed a car, and that's what they had. So I might be overstating the jerkiness. I also checked the fluid level last night, and it's a bit low, though still in the range. Hasn't been changed in a couple of years.

So I'm wondering how much "jerkiness" is because of neglect, and how much is the transmission getting ready to go.

Honda dealer told me that the warranty on the transmission was extended to 120,000 miles because of problems, but I've used that up. So if it goes, I'm out of wheels.

warranty is 7 years 9 months or 114.5K miles for your car (including milage allotment from odometer settlement and recent california case settlement)

honda may good will the repair but once the milage gets up near the cutoff, chances goes down.......

That sounds about right. I was guessing, because I couldn't remember. I'm at 130k so I've already blown past my "good will."

I'm SOL on this one, so I'll just change the tranny fluid and hope for the best.
