hav 92 civic hatch dx with sick d15b8 engine. want fuel econ not pwr type replacement. was getting 47mpg on hwy w/d15. hoped to find newer sohc 8 valve engine and see indications that the d16y7 and y8 mentioned as replacements but no facts about them being an econ engine. thanx slomover

You wont find a newer SOHC 8 valve engine, the D15B8 was the last one, D167Y is probably the next closest thing if you wanted something newer, D16Y8 is more of a power oriented replacement, still not ridiculous, and either paired with your existing transmission should yeild similar results mileage wise, wont be quite as good, but should still be within 7mpg of what you were getting.
