Default good ways to keep body panels from rusting?

I have an rsx-

its an 03 and ive been thinking-

I live on the east coast, where if you dont garage your car all the time, give some years and the car starts to rust (15 years?) in typical areas?

is there anything you guys do- who have had your cars for years and kept them rust free in the typical areas around the quarter panels and such?

do you do alot of cleaning underneath the wheel well arches?

I figured buildup of moist materials (mud+ water) eventually cause corosion to those areas?
