Default alternator belt too short?

ok my alternator belt started to shred last night so i took it out and it said 4pk775 on it, so i went to autozone and got a 4pk775, made by dayco(different brand than shredded one), and the belt is too short to fit over the pulley even with all the bolts loosened and the alternator moved as close as possible to the engine...should i just go for a 785? or bigger?
